Idea of this trade is that Portland will start rebuild. Which means they trade everyone who is good away to other teams and start to suck. Off course this is awful trade if you want to have competitive team, but that was never the goal of this trade idea. Goal for Portland is to tank. So players coming your way doesn't matter. Lousier the better. Only picks matter.

Btw it was 3 firsts, and you can probably add 1 more or pick swaps to make it fairer, but if you want to rebuild would you want good players back? Do you want to go Utah's route or Detroit/Houston/OKC route?

Rebuilding as a concept is fine, but getting zero quality assets back for a guy not explicitly asking out is another thing. I'm pretty sure the Blazers would rather take J. Brown directly and build around him and Simons than trade for 3 non top 10 picks and filler to tank in an already small market. Even D. Mitch and Gobert brought back real young assets in return (with Markonnen really hitting) along with picks.

Problem with building with Brown is same as with Markkanen. They are not on the same age group as rest of the team. If you pick a player this year, it will take 3-4 years before they become good, if they become good and that means you will lose Brown's prime years in the tanking years. So I rather build a team same way OKC did by having lot of picks in 3 year's. With those picks you can get 4-6 player group who can grow up together. Maybe 2 of those will actually become good, so then you will have a base in where all the players are in same age group. Negative side of that is you will be really bad 2-3 years and that will be tough for fans.

Building with Simons and Brown. Age difference is acceptable, but again comes the problem, they need more and if you want to have more then with Brown you don't have time to get those players from draft cause it takes that 3-4 years to grow those picks to real players. And to be honest team probably would be too good to get early picks anyway. So only way to improve is to find those really good 24-26 who are in trade market and those players aren't available very often. Maybe once in two years those player are available. That is pretty much the situation where Utah is right now if they want to build with Markkanen. They need to find these few available 25 year olds. So I find this route little bit riskier than going all in.

So if I would build with Portland I would trade Lillard, Nurkic and rest of the older players for picks and maybe couple younglings. But not get anything really good back.

Maybe Knicks would be better option than Utah cause they can throw in some of Barrett, Toppin, Quickley or Grimes with picks, even though I personally think Barrett is fools gold. And I would think Knicks would like to have Brown too.

Bottom line: if POR decides to rebuild, they will want young talent + picks for Lillard, not old trash + picks. Lillard to any of the current top 6 teams comes as close to a guaranteed championship as you're going to get. Knowing that, wherever Lillard goes, vet min ring chasers will follow.

Yeah, he's 32, but in spite of POR's poor record (I blame their crap coach), he's having the best season of his career. He's still a top 4 offensive player (3rd in scoring at 32.2 PTS/G, 2nd in Offensive Win Shares, 2nd in OBPM) and top 10 overall player (4th in EPM, 6th in Win Shares, 6th in WS/48, 6th in VORP. 8th in PER, 10th in BPM). Should POR decide to trade him, they will demand, and get a king's ransom for him - not old, broken down players and middling 1st round picks.

Brown is good fit for MIN and CAVS, but I don’t like for BOS. Brogdon/Samrt/White + Garland? Also BOS has own bigs Al and RW3. BOS needs wing or PF like Siakam.

I don't like it for the Cavs both Mitchell and Garland benefit from playing next to someone who can dribble, play off the ball, and create for teammates; and besides ... why do the Cavs need a defensive boost?

They've already got the #1 defense.

Look how Tatum folded his tent up 2-1 in the championship series and leading in game 4. He was a no show the rest of the series.

If I was Boston and Brown wanted to leave...assuming we fell short again this postseason...I'd look for Beal + draft capital that I could combine with Timelord for Myles Turner; whether sending Jaylen to Washington or to a third team that sent the Wizards a gaggle of futures (NOLA/NYK?).

Then I would add some of my own picks + Brogdon to pursue a better 3rd option. My initial thought for a Brogdon+ follow-up trade was a 4 that could shoot...like Lauri if Utah wanted to sell high on him, or maybe Collins?...but I kinda think that someone like Anunoby might make even more sense.

Smart | White
Beal
Anunoby | Williams
Tatum
Turner | Horford

Alternatively, instead of Turner and a 3rd option, maybe use that draft capital to swap timelord + Brogdon for AD? Injuries would almost certainly be a problem...but if Tatum, AD, and Beal were all fit for the postseason; you'd have to fancy that trio's chances to not just get past Giannis, but any team from the West as well.

I think Poole + Wiggins makes a lot of sense if the goal is stay elite for Boston.

Wiggins fills much of the void Brown leaves behind by himself. Poole either comes on board as a guard who creates his own offense and they move one of their other three guards for support elsewhere, or Poole is moved to a team like Orlando or Brooklyn for what Boston does want in a 3 way deal.

Brown slides into the starting 3 spot for GSW and becomes the core of the future with Kuminga.

As a Celtics fan who likes Brown and doesn’t want to move him, Garland or Towns are the only things in this thread so far that id consider. I think Garland would be amazing in Boston. White slides into the starting 5 and you still have Smart and Brogdon off the bench. I’m honestly not sure the cavs pull the trigger on that deal though

according to one raptors fan in the overpaid players thread.. siakam is way better than brown. so this would be a bad trade

I think it balances the roster for both teams, allows Boston to trade him if he actually wants out for someone they can continue to compete with as well because he's All NBA in his own right. Raps get a self creating big guard that can score on 3 levels and put pressure on the rim. He's the same age as OG and can easily play next to Scottie and OG for the foreseeable future. Also think he would Toronto as a city itself

Big Jaylen Brown fan here.

If we can loosen the protection and get Pritchard back then lets do it

Brown+ Robert Williams+ Grant Williams to Memphis for JJJ+ Bane. This changes the scenery when Morant comes back assuming he does come back.

Yeah, not Siakam and Precious ... that's too much.

While he isn't consistent yet ... and needs lots of reps still ... Precious shot almost 40% from three after the all-star break last year - and in guarding all five positions at a high level has loads of potential

... Boston needs to kick in a first if they want Precious too

neither compliment barnes. barnes' has a higher ceiling. We can have
Fvv
brown
OG
Barnes
Poetl, preferably someone who can shoot.

I dont care about guarding 1-5, we cant score against good defenses and siakam is too many dribbles for below league average efficency. Precious is a good player, but he gives us nothing barnes and OG dont. if Barnes develops into ben simmons with a respectable jumpshot, those guys just have no place on the roster.

siakams value to other teams is not that high. hes a guy who cant outscore another teams best or sometimes second best player, doesnt really guard the other teams best player, doesnt space at an elite level, doesnt playmake at an elite level. to other teams, hes basically Randle, Siakam is just more valuable because he can play a smaller role better than julius.

if you disagree, what is he elite at that he can lean on while playing beside a guy like tatum

Not sure if this is Brown's contract negotiations or not but basically calling the fanbase and city racist suggests he wants out. Could be he wants for other reasons : change, bigger role, out of Tatum's shadow, etc. If you can angle yourself towards a team you want to go in free agency, why not start the process earlier.
