I just don't understand why Portland would trade their second biggest asset for WCJ and a pick knowing that won't make them a better team. I think their best move is to trade Lillard and funny there is an article about on the home page.

They want assets and getting out of players that don't fit. Don't forget, they traded CJ for a bunch of nothing just to get out of his contract too. Fultz and the Bulls pick would likely be enough. The real question is, should we even consider that?
I’m thinking something like Harris, Bol, Okeke, Bulls pick for Simons gets it done easily.
Just getting a lotto pick for a guy they already have a replacement for in-house would be a big win for them.
- as part of a package for a second star. Orlando could be part of a 3-way deal or to get the Blazers appealing assets to send to team 3
- another quality forward to play alongside Grant whom we assume is resigning - obviously Orlando is not going to trade either Franz or Banchero for Simons
- a more mobile center with the ability to switch either as a replace for, or compliment to, Jusuf Nurkic. WCJ would fit this description well
so your proposal is DOA. Harris to back up Thybulle or impeed Sharpe? Bol as a novelty item? Okeke as back-up SF? A third 1st round pick this draft? No thanks.
WCJ and the Bulls pick for Simons and the Knicks pick would probably work.
WCJ & Bulls pick would be highway robbery. To be honest, I wouldn't even do WCJ for Simons & the Knicks pick.
WCJ is a far better player, he isn't a perfect fit with our 2 future stars like Brook Lopez would be, but he's still a top 10 fit with them compared to the rest of the league's centers, along with the fact that WCJ is a fringe top 10 center in general in the NBA.
He has one of the best contracts in the NBA, and this trade would leave the Magic worse than better because our backups at the center position is awful.
I'm only moving WCJ if I can get a player of Jaylen Brown or better in a package in return.
The Simons trade talks, are too much about making a trade just to make one. I get he's a hometown guy, but if we're that interested, we would've signed him last offseason. Trading a great asset for a defensive liability who struggles to create for others and we could've signed outright last season is poor asset management.

Simons being their second biggest asset isn't true. That's Sharpe. Also that's more indicative of the lack of assets the Blazers have in general than them sending some future HOF.
WCJ & a pick would make them better easily, but it's not going to happen because that trade would be highway robbery
It's so clear the Blazers should just trade Lillard and start a rebuild with Sharpe and their 1st rounder from this year, but their management likes the cashflow from having a superstar like Lillard on their team

I don't think it's highway robbery at all. Honestly, I would give the edge to Portland in that trade but it all depends on how you view Simons and WCJ. And what i mean by the trade won't make Portland better is that while WCJ is an amazing role player he definitely is not a player that will make Portland good enough to make Dame stay or make Portland suddenly a championship team. They need a star or two. WCJ is not that guy.
But I do agree it's clear as day that the Blazers should trade Dame. I just think they should build around Sharpe, Simons, whoever they draft with their pick and whatever they get from the Dame trade. That is some pretty good pieces to start a rebuild with.

Damian is being shut down by POR the rest of the season. And he will meet with Front Office to discuss his future. Most likely, in my opinion, he is going to demand a trade. But will Magic take on his HUGE contract? I doubt it. We'd give up 3 or 4 FRPs plus Wendell or Suggs. It is not going to happen. But I'd rather pay attention to Luka though. Dallas is a mess and if they can not even make the playoff. Wait for the domino to fall. Let's DREAM

I wonder if we look at Lillard like our version of Phoenix and Chris Paul. It's a bit early to level up with a star veteran like that but I mean I could see it I guess.MasterGMer wrote:Damian is being shut down by POR the rest of the season. Giving up 3 or 4 FRP for a soon to be 33 year old Lillard who will be paid 63 mln. in 2026/2027 would be an all time terrible deal.
