Re: is Klay done?
His pay isn't an issue in that he's earnt it for prior service and it's not like we could sign anyone else given the cap situation
The issue is he's worth 40m some nights but is playing like a scrub others. He's always been streaky, but doesn't deliver much on the defensive end these days, and his shortcomings are amplified by Poole.
With that all said I hope we keep him because he's a friggin legend

Much like poole, his value is hitting shots. When they dont, both hurt the team.

Statmuse has him at 57.3% for the season which has him right about league average for a shooting guard (56.9%) or small forward (57.7%) on considerably higher volume.
So no, his offence isn't a problem unless you only remember the bad games. The only issue here is his consistency, or lack of.
Defensively he looks washed, which is about JP's ceiling on that end.

The consistency issue is why I have thought he should come off the bench for awhile. I thought he was coming on strong with more consistency, but he's wavering again. I really wanted to believe the consistency was back, but it isn't. I also think with his age/injuries fewer minutes would be best to help with consistency, and then have him play more when he's hot.
But ya I see the same TS% as you. He's been hotter the 2nd half of the season, but his defense has not been good. And what's most annoying is sometimes his defensive effort is lacking, which is confusing.

Re: is Klay done?
On nights Klay doesn't have it going Kerr has to hammer Poole about getting to the hoop. Poole doesn't have the outside shot to get up as many 3s as he does. Steph had nothing tonight, he shot worse than Klay and was worse on defense. Some nights Klay should sit in favor of Poole to start 4ths, just like switching pitchers.
The blaming Klay for this season is just crazy. Wiggins has missed half the season and was out of it the last two months he played. Steph has missed more than a 1/3 of the season. I would say Klay having some great shooting nights over the last two months is the biggest reason we are in playoff position. Klay willed us to a lot of wins and kept this season alive.

Re: is Klay done?
It's weird and interesting that Klay had his best stretch of the season when Curry was out. He handled the ball more and was more of a playmaker. Somehow that kept him more engaged.
Everybody thought then that the return of Curry would give the chance to turn the season around. But reality is, the pairing of Curry and Klay hasn't worked well in the last months.
I personally have more trust in our bench to keep it close than our starters at this point.

Klay was really bad last night... 1 good game and then 3 bad games after... seems like a pattern

If I had a guarantee that one of Poole or Klay would be hot every night, then I would be happy.

Klay with career high in 3 pts made, and leading the league, this season.

So? It's his 1st full season since 2019 and he's still working his way back. Minus some terrible games, he's doing decent. Leading the league at 3's while shooting 40% is nothing to scoff at.

Re: is Klay done?
First, because it is surprising that he bested his career best totals on 3 pts. made. With all the high powered offenses GSW has fielded since its championship run started, I thought he would have scored more in prior seasons. Second, that he is scoring so many is a great sign. He started slowly this season, but in 2023, Klay is shooting 43% on 3 pts which is excellent for a scorer. He is climbing into form offensively. Third, his contract was signed a year before he blew out his achilles...that often can be the death knell for a player's career and can crush an organization that is bound to that player's contract. For Klay to be back as a key scorer is amazing...his contract could have become a Ralph Sampson level albatross for GSW. It isn't. Is it pre-injuries Klay? No, but I'll take this version given what has happened over the past 2 years. Fourth, why dump on Klay? Guy has been a key cog in multiple championships, obviously bleeds blue and gold, and has to have worked extremely hard to get back to where he is. As a fan, you have to admire his fortitude and work ethics. He could have just mailed it in after the achilles tear, which would have left GSW with an albatross. So yeah, it is noteworthy.SpreeS wrote:a8bil wrote:Klay with career high in 3 pts made, and leading the league, this season.

Klay worth 75m for 3 years. same with Green. Keep them both and try to trade Poole is the winning play.

Poole, Wiggins and JK are the future. Loon will also play a large role in that.
Outside of Curry, Poole is the only person on our team that can create for himself or for others. He’s young and stuck behind two legends so he hasn’t been able to iron some key pieces. That will change tho and Klay may need to accept a role from the bench in the coming years.
25 mill per for Klay sounds right but sounds a little high for Dray. He should be more in the high teens or 20 mill per range.

Dray being the 2nd most important player yet will be paid the 5th highest is such a weird thing.

Draymond will get paid according to the market--do you think anyone will offer him more than that?

No I don't, it's just a weird thing. Just like JP possibly being the 2nd highest paid player will be wild.
