Re: Matisse Thybulle Appreciation Thread
I’m thrilled to have Thybulle on POR. Hopefully we keep him and he improved going into next year.

I was hoping and expecting this to be one of the first replies. You did not disappoint. Jroy have it all.

You'd think someone with such a great +/- would play at the end of the game, no? Perhaps that stat doesn't really hold much weight.
I never said he's a closer or a star player man relax. I'm just saying he's more valuable than some of u thought but whatever I'll go on rooting for him. And ya Blazers are my 2nd favorite team, no big deal
Yea, I’m not sure the point of posting his +/- was, just reacting to it.
He’s the same player he’s been the entire time he’s been with us. I hope he succeeds too, but a hot shooting streak is not going to change my mind on what he is as a player.

Re: Matisse Thybulle Appreciation Thread
If you ask me, it's obvious that Matisse would collect great +/- stats on the Blazers because they pair a small wing rotation with 2 of the worse defenders on the entire league while also having bad rim protection.
Basically, pairing Dame with Matisse or Simons with Matisse means he can diminish the defensive problem of pairing both together. That doesn't mean he's conducive to winning because he's still allowing both of those guys to get doubled. Basically Doubling Dame or Simons when both play with Matisse, is more effective than playing Dame and Simons together.
The fact that Matisse gets great +/- is an indictment on how bad the pairing of Dame and Simons works in a league where PnR is the primary offensive set.

Re: Matisse Thybulle Appreciation Thread
Looks like Matisse back down to his usual %s after a short hot streak right after the trade--last 10 games he's at 44/28/56. His volume is up a little bit overall but it's looking like more or less the same per-minute production he was doing throughout his Philly time.
Still doing Matisse things so I'm not trying to trash him or anything. Just noticed the Last-10 statline while cruising box scores.

He's getting to the age where it's probably unreasonable to expect much improvement. There are occasionally players who turn into good 3pt shooters in their late 20s or even 30s, but not many. I really expected him to learn that role, but seems like not.

Add context, they are tanking, Dame missing alot of games, he's playing less minutes too because the whole point of him is to play next to Dame

This was over 10 games that started last weekend so I don’t think any of that is relevant here. I believe Dame played in 8 of those 10 games, and all but one were before they pulled the plug. And Thybulle played fairly big minutes.
I also don’t quite get the argument you’re implying: are you expecting Thybulle will shoot a respectable % only when he plays 30+ mpg alongside Damian Lillard?

Do you think he wouldn't shoot a higher percentage next to Lillard?

I like Thybulle and wish we had him still. No, that doesn't mean he can shoot from 3.

Do you think he wouldn't shoot a higher percentage next to Lillard?
Well the reason I quoted that stat was to show that he hasn’t done that. He had 5 games after the trade where he shot over 50% from deep, then those 10 where he was back down to 28%. And again almost all those were with Lillard.
He also pretty much just shot open rhythm 3s on the Sixers. And he played his whole career with Embiid, plus with Simmons and Harden. There were always plenty of good shots available. I could see the change of scenery and a general reset helping him but I don’t think he was struggling with bad or highly contested looks in his Sixer time.
Not trying to blast him, just would be much more surprising to me if his shooting jumped by 7%+ than if he remained around his career averages for the next couple years. He took a lot of open shoots for us and a lot of shots in general, and the story was pretty clear. Not bad enough that you were surprised if some went in, but never good enough that you expected the most wide open shots to fall.
