Yeah, I think Johnson is a Day 1 starter at tackle. Wouldn't be upset with him at all at 15, but my gut says he goes in the Top-12.

Just stumbled on to the Thinking Football channel on YT. Spend about 10 minutes watching this JSN breakdown and tell me you don't see some movement skills that have you thinking Cooper Kupp and Davante Adams.
I'm all in on this kid. I don't think there is a chance he would be available if not for that injury this year. The nuances in his routes and placements sitting in zones is really elite.

Will Anderson is probably going to go #1 overall, but yesterday Anthony Richardson looked like a guy who could challenge him.
It's happening.

Panthers drafting Cam Newton (had no idea he played for the Gators for two years before transferring) and then the second coming of Cam Newton is certainly something. What's that time is a flat circle thing???

Foxworth and Bomani were talking about him a week or so ago and Foxworth's take was one I hadn't heard before or considered. He thought it was too risky not to take him. His argument was that you need some kind of elite skill at the position that you can count on, and that Richardson's athleticism and running ability gives teams a baseline to work with much in the same way it does Lamar. Except AR also comes with huge size and a monster gun.

Difference of course is that as a passer, Richardson's college tape makes Cam look like Peyton Manning by comparison. Not even gonna say that it's an awful pick for fear of looking dumb 5-years from now, but it's absolutely wild that he's (possibly) going #1 overall with that kind of resume. We've gone from that weird era of trying to convert every athletic college QB into a skill position guy (Matt Jones, Eric Crouch, Tebow, Terrelle Pryor) to now trying to turn every uber-athletic, read-option tailback into a franchise QB lol.

I love JSN. He's probably my top receiver followed by Zay Flowers.
I know the Packers don't really have a record of taking pass-catchers in Round 1, but I think Gute is more willing to go against the grain a bit. He liked Jefferson a few seasons ago and tried to get Watson in Round 1 last year. Taking one this year right after we deal Rodgers would be chefs kiss. Load up on weapons for your new QB and enact a little bit of spite against ole Rodg... win-win.

I’ll say it. I think it’ll be an awful pick. Yes, he can run, but he can’t pass and that’s a big trait of being a qb lol

One factor is Newton was 22 when he was drafted, and Richardson will be 20. I guess it all depends on whether you're confident in your coaching staff and your ability to surround him with good talent.

I think if anything he's gonna be a fascinating case study in how far NFL offenses have evolved and what they'll look like going forward. I kinda agree with the notion that he might actually be a high floor guy as opposed to a complete boom/bust prospect. The running ability in conjunction with spread offense and modern rules protecting QB's has been such a game-changer for some of these guys who would've gotten killed on the field just 15-20 years ago. Remember when Madden '04 came out and you just went shotgun set every play with Michael Vick? That's what real NFL football is now lol.

If Richardson goes 1 he needs to send Josh Allen a thank you basket or something. Josh was the best thing that's ever happened to these crazy big, athletic, yet flawed QBs.
I will say Richardsons pro day backflip was pretty crazy. Not sure that means anything for a QB but **** was pretty impressive.

Any chance he's Daunte Culpepper 2.0?

Not sure what that's supposed to illustrate. Change that to "1st WR taken" since 2013 and you have an almost identical list.
2022: Drake London
2021: Jamar Chase
2020: Henry Ruggs
2019: Marquise Brown
2018: DJ Moore
2017: Corey Davis
2016: Corey Coleman
2015: Amari Cooper
2014: Sammy Watkins
2013: Tavon Austin

So assuming 15, what’re your lists of guys you’d be stoked with and guys you’d be disappointed in?
Stoked:
Kincaid
JSN
Hyatt
Van Ness
Murphy
Gonzalez
Disappointed:
Any OL
Addison
Mayer
Bresee
Branch or any other safety
I could be talked into just about anyone else outside of obvious reaches or positions of little to no need.

Or it means that some of those organizations have dumb front offices as evidenced by recent history (Raiders lulz) and you shouldn't just blindly follow the mock draft grades/consensus that determined those guys to be the #1 prospects at their position. You know, basically the complete antithesis to the weird "Draft is pure luck and every front office operates with the same prospect tiers" argument lol.

Yeah ole Mike Mayock had a rough go of it in Oakland. So bad I'm not sure he can even move back to TV and be taken seriously.Ron Swanson wrote:Or it means that some of those organizations have dumb front offices as evidenced by recent history (Raiders lulz) and you shouldn't just blindly follow the mock draft grades/consensus that determined those guys to be the #1 prospects at their position. Kind of funny that the Bengals nailed both their guys and they probably spend the least amount on scouting of any franchise in the league. But helps when your picking studs like Burrow and Chase top 5.
I'm not full on th87 on this and I do believe some teams eval talent better than others. But I also think there's more luck involved than people want to admit, heck I think that about sports in general. Once lucky bounce can totally change a game and how we talk about a player.
