That's your opinion. Consensus had him as a top 60 guy - I had him top 35.
The NBA these days is all about wings. Mitchell is a modern wing who is really good at driving into the paint and either finishing, drawing a foul or kicking to the open man. Decent outside shooter. High motor. Can defend at a decent level for a freshman. Was a 5 star recruit and was one of the best, most consistent players for duke as a freshman. 6'8" with a strong build.
Could make a leap next year and go top 20..
The player you just described would’ve gone lotto, that’s not Mitchell. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a fan of Mitchell and very happy he is returning, but there is a reason why his stock plummeted throughout the year.
He is horrible at driving. His handle is beyond bad.
He also isn’t a good passer, he had more turnovers than assists and barely even averaged an assist.
His jumper also isn’t translatable to the NBA because it’s a low, slow push shot.
He’s a good defender but not a high impact defender. I think he needs to work on being a more impactful defender, become a more consistent rebounder and tweak the shot. I think his best comp at the moment if things go right is Jarred Vanderbilt.
