A great video by our fellow RealGM poster ElGee (Ben Taylor)...

Enjoy & discuss.

PS: please don't call him "Vando"... this is Wando in my country:

Yeah I can see it. Not as prolific on the boards though. Rodman had a talent like Kevin Love for rebounding despite size.

I dont see it even remotely. He is a good defender yes...but that is not modern Rodman, that is a good lengthy defender. If anything that'd be more Pippen based but he is not at all like Pippen.

I think the comparison is based on them both being limited offensively and the video is looking at, hypothetically, what someone like Rodman would look like in today's game.

Of course, there have been other good to elite defenders with limited offensive game, but very few of them compare to Rodman in overall defensive style and principles. Examples would be Tony Allen - limited of offense and probably a better perimeter defender than Vando. However, Allen was very unorthodox on D and would constantly break the rules of what is considered good defense, whereas Vando and Rodman had really fundamentally sound concepts on D. In terms of activity level Allen, Rodman, Vando are similar.

Andre Roberson was also a non threat on offense, but way more relaxed on defense. He just contested every single shot, wouldn't go for steals, knew how to stay and or get in front of players and then contest/block.

Rodman was greatness. I'd say Pat Bev and Draymond are the closest as current players... Vanderbilt prob top three.

Plays on Timberwolves = Roleplayer

Plays on Lakers = Modern Dennis Rodman.

Good defender though, but ya'll for real?

Ben was high about him before he went to the Lakers.

I think the issue with Bev is that he is unplayable in some matchups. We've seen defenders be unplayable due to their offense, but remember that the Clippers had to keep Bev glued to the bench against the Mavericks specifically due to his defense, otherwise that series would have been over for them in four games. Draymond is certainly the closest thing to Rodman in terms of overall style and impact and probably defensive IQ too.

Kind of unreal both the Nuggets and Wolves let him get away. He's a near-perfect compliment to both Jokic and Towns

Is Thinking Basketball the next Basketball Breakdown? Aka a channel that used to be great in quality but started to rapidly decline and it became pretty clear click bait videos were being cranked out to just get views and add money?

I think so.

Nuggets didn't have minutes to develop him, and don't think he would've been good fit with Jokic, guys need to hit their shoots when they are open and Vando is not a shooter by any means

He is absolutely nowhere in the same stratosphere as Dennis Rodman was. He's an excellent energy guy and I love his game but let's not overdo it.

Let's give him I guess Kenneth Fried first.....maybe...

My comp would be Kenneth Faried.
"Thibs called back and wanted more picks," said Jorge Sedano. "And Pat Riley, literally, I was told, called him a mother-bleeper and hung up the phone."

Closer to James Singleton than Rodman, but man, if he's the modern Rodman, the lakers should cruise to a title.

People overthink basketball, it isn't complicated.
Organization can be defined as an organized body of people with a particular purpose. Not random.
