Re: 2023 Draft Discussion Part III
Hate to say it but I think Wallace is firmly out of our grasp.
As of now, we're sitting at #13 with upcoming back to back games against the Hornets. Then Boston back to back then Milwaukee. Chances are we'll be picking #12 at best, #15 at worst.
Lots left to be decided by combine and workouts but as I've said many times before - it could be in our best interested to move back a few picks if the guy (or guys) we like will be available there. It could be risky though...the guy you're after could get snatched up before you've had a chance to pick but there's projects to be enough talent down there that we'll get at least one of the guys one our list.

Sanogo is a PF with a C's game. Would have to be in a small ball lineup.
Organization can be defined as an organized body of people with a particular purpose. Not random.

Yep, saw him earlier this season, definitely NBA talent. Staying another year would be ideal to boost his minutes but guaranteed contract is hard to decline

He’s one of those guys I’d scoff at us taking, but would fully understand it if we did.

Andre Jackson is Caruso type player. I'd definitely take him in 2nd.

Do we have a 2nd? I'd love to add one. I can see Jackson either sneaking into the end of the 1st or among the first three picks in the second.

We do not. Raps traded it for playoff experience.

Meh, it was a good deal. I can’t say the same for the Thad deal

For what it's worth, my friend I watched the game with is all aboard the Jackson Jr hype train. Hopefully SDST plays well in the finals.

You wouldn’t be friends with a guy named Masai or Bobby, would you?

Hardy is 6'4 and has a 6'10 wingspan and weighs 198 lbs, so from a size POV he can definitely be able to be physically impactful on the defensive end, but he just hasn't done much on that end at any level.
There are a lot of combo guards this draft cycle who physically look to be the same as Hardy and have similar offensive games. Maybe guys like Bufkin, Smith Jr., George, Terq, Hawkins are way off our board given that we passed on Hardy.
Predicting picks is basically impossible unless an O.G falls to us, but based on our track record I'd say Smith Jr we're probably low on because his stats aren't very good, Terq, Hawkins and George I could see and Bufkin we might actually just like, he kinda does a bit of everything.
Bufkin defends hard, wouldn't call him elite defensively, but won't be a knock on him either, and he's got some good length for his size, so if the team believes in his offensive game, could see them taking him. He doesn't turn 20 until September and has shown great improvement from year 1 to 2 and even from beginning of year 2 to end of year 2.
Yeah, I was just going with his age, improvement from freshman to sophomore, good stocks and he had a good, productive season and it could have been bigger if he'd hit more than 35.5% of his 3s, which his good FT% and rep as a shooter suggest is possible (Michigan also had a non-shooting PG and got no production at the 4 and Jett Howard at the 3 never got inside the arc, so I think he wasn't in an ideal position to hit say 40%).
On the other hand, a perimeter guy who didn't dominate the Big 10 is EXTREMELY tough to get excited about at #3 or so considering Johnny Davis looks a bust. Bufkin seems like the kind of solid 10M (soon to be 15M) guard that like the Clippers, Memphis and now Knicks seem to have in droves, but that's fairly low upside for where we are picking this year. Feels like a guy you trade down (say down to #20 and we get Moody from the Warriors? Nets both picks set to be 21st and 22nd?) for if you really like him. I just don't see how he goes in the lottery unless he's incredible in workouts. Feels more like a guy who goes around #25.
Where's the D?

Yeah, my thinking is that unless we move up, the top 10 guys here and Wallace are gone before we pick:
https://www.tankathon.com/mock_draft
So it's all about Smith Jr, George and then whatever other first rounder gains steam when they show up with a better jumper or are incredible in workouts or grows 2 inches or whatever.
If I had to predict today, my wild guess is Whitehead goes at #12 with that top 10 group and Wallace and we draft uh, Leonard Miller and move Siakam with Nurse going? I have no idea. Vecenie has Whitehead going at #23, but he and Smith Jr were the 1 and 2 recruits coming into the season playing in the NCAA and the concerns about Smith (defence, efficiency) just seem like more serious ones than the main ones against Whitehead (slow to shake off an injury so struggled inside).
Where's the D?

Bufkin may be at minimum like a slightly taller Tre Mann (drafted #18) like prospect.
