My guess is he’s really good at end of the bench celebrations.

Yeah. This makes No sense. Is it a 10-Day, or a Rest-of-Season?
Cause, we could have been bringing up Maine Celtics' for 10-Day contracts.
And, we don't need a 15th guy for the Playoffs.

Welp we had dozens (?) of pages on the buy out guy and couldn’t come up with it. Well played Brad! Don’t worry we will get the next one lol.

Well we need guys for garbage time in the playoffs and the tax hit is minimal. And you'd figure the guys will get a lot of rest down the stretch. Outside of that, yeah idk, I wish we could've used the slot earlier

Fizzling name aside, this Champagnie guy will never replace Celtics Justin "GOAT" 15th-man Jackson in our green hearts.

If it's a multi-year deal, then he's trade fodder in the summer.

Can they give him a multi-year deal? Can’t remember how that works.
Anyways the guy is still 21, very young. Pretty classic 3(maybe)/D archetype as a player.

lol yeah - of course they sign someone we didn't talk about.
There was speculation that it could be a young guy with some upside from the g league. I threw out a couple of names who fit that criteria - Feron Hunt and Gabe Brown.
Honestly, hadn't really thought of Justin or looked into him because I thought he was under contract with the Raptors on a 2-way. I guess the Raptors waived him on December 29 - I didn't realize that.
Nice pickup. He's young. Only 21 - turns 22 in a couple months. Haven't looked into him much over the past couple years (cause again, thought he was on a 2-way with the raptors) but from my understanding he's a wing who's decent at everything but not great at anything. Biggest thing that I noticed when watching him coming out of college was he really hustles, plays hard, is tough, feisty - plays with an "edge" which Brad talks about how he likes guys who have that edge to them. Good defender - from my understanding he's a better defender than he is offensive player.
So a wing who's still very young with some athleticism, some decent size who plays hard, hustles, is tough, scrappy, plays with an edge. Good defender and decent on offense.
Solid pickup.
Probably won't see the floor much this season but he's emergency wing depth. And can possibly compete for an end of the bench roster spot next season.
He's had some huge games in the g league. Might be 1 of those guys who's too good for the g league but not good enough to make an impact in the NBA. But hey, he's only 21 so he might develop into something good. Why not roll the dice?
One of things I like about filling the last roster spot with a defensive wing who really gets after it, hustles and has some athleticism - even if he doesn't play much in games, a guy like this will be defending the Jays in practice A LOT. Iron sharpens iron.
The Champagnie twins are from Brooklyn. They're tough, fearless Brooklyn kids. Julian is the better shooter. Justin is the better defender and more athletic.
I'm just glad we picked up somebody to fill that spot. Somebody is better than leaving the spot empty. It's better to have an emergency depth wing and not need him, than need an emergency depth wing and not have one.
Nothing wrong with having a different opinion - as long as it's done respectfully. It'd be lame if we all agreed on everything

Re: Welcome to Boston, Justin Champagnie!
Great analysis Hal.
So: like Justin Jackson, but maybe kind of feisty.
Didn’t this guy and other Raptors third stringers beat the crap out the Celtics either in the preseason, or summer league, or a game last year? I remember this guy being one of the fleet of lengthy feisty Raptors.
Welcome aboard. I have so many conflicting feelings;) (djfan knows what I’m talking about)
