Hey RealGMs, with the NBA Draft right around the corner, I thought it would be a good idea to put together a series of polls to determine the Orlando Magic NBA draft big board.
Here's how it works: we'll create a poll of the top ten players and have our esteemed board members select their top preference. The winner will be noted with the percent of votes they earned and the poll will then be reset with another player added and the previous winner removed. This process will be continued until a top 10 or 15 is decided on.
This is a great way for us to get a sense of who the Magic should be targeting in the upcoming draft. With so many talented players available, it can be tough to know who to prioritize. But with the help of our knowledgeable board members, I'm confident we can put together a list of top prospects that the Magic can use to build a championship-caliber team.
So, Magic RealGMs, get ready to have your voices heard! I'll be updating these polls daily, so be sure to check back often and cast your vote for the player you think would be the best fit for the Magic.

I'll go down with the ship on Wemby if we get the 1st, pick Wemby, and for whatever reason it doesn't work out.

I love that the 4th prospect and the the 73rd prospect are lumped in the same group called "the rest".

Clearly Wemby #1, #2 is not so clear.

1. Wemby, with concern, can't pass on him
2. Scoot...poppin' corks
3. Miller, but not by a ton
...the rest/crapshoot
Honestly, anyone not choosing Wemby is trolling. It's like LBJ draft...already settled. This might be the first draft in decades where they pull out the Wemby jersey at the lottery instead of the whole "we're going to do our due diligence with all of these fine young men...blah blah character...blah blah coachable...blah blah winner"
#4 would be a very interesting poll (assuming the three I mentioned are gone)

I'm interested to see if the Thompson twins are really going high.
I wouldn't draft them in the top 15. They've had plenty of time and coaching to learn how to shoot.

There are guys on our team now that have had a lot more years, including NBA coaching, and still can't - but a lot of people want to give them a pass.

Re: Orlando Magic Big Board (1st Pick)
Wemby is unanimous so far as expected. Tempting to pick Scoot but hard to go against the grain when Wemby is largely considered one of the best prospects of all time.

No sane person is taking Scoot #1.

You will have very tought time convincing me that other guys don't have shooting question marks ( along with other question marks ) at given draft range.
Anthony Black ,30% for 3 on 28/93 sample.
Jalen Hood-Schifino 37/11 for 3 ( 76% FTs).
Cam Withmore 37/108 for 3 ,70% FTs
Jarace Walker only shoots 66% FTs on 35/101 for 3. For comparison sake, strong SF-PF defender with similar percentages are:
1) Justise Winslow ( 46/110 for 3, 64% FTs)
2) Stanley Johnson ( 43/116 for 3 , 74% FTs)
His shooting motion is awkward, he is defended as no-shooter already even at college, he needs ages to get into shooting motion and lunch shot, some of his shots are massive bricks (again, despite fact most of the time he isn't really guarded like person who is treat to make shots).
People who compare him with Isaac forget fact that Isaac is towering at 7 foot and this guy is slightly above league's average in size. He is more of Scottie Barnes without passing chops than Isaac.
For comparison sake, Amen shot 21/83 for 3 ( 25% ) and Ausar 34/120 (28%). We can talk about level of competition, but those shooting numbers aren't that much different.
When we talk about 80-120 shot attemps sample size, difference between 5-6 threes made over whole season scews percentages by 4-5% so you go from 28% to 34%. But sample size is simply too low to just focus on it.
Looking at catch& shoot numbers, 2FA from mid range, FTA would be more insightful, but we, as fans, normally don't have access to all that.

The Thompson twins are a year older than those players. They are Paolo's age. Whitmore is 1.5 years younger.pepe1991 wrote:basketballRob wrote:Who shoots worse than the Twins?Skybox wrote:

The Twins had 24 hour a day training facilities. The other players went to school part-time.

This is pretty clearly going to be the order barring “fit” and workouts with Scoot/Miller dependent on the lotto.
Orlando’s biggest needs are shooting and wing depth. Chuma and Bol just don’t really cut it. Isaac is cooked.
Fortunately for the Magic there are a ton of guys in the 5-12 range that fit both of those needs and wouldn’t be a reach.
This off-season and draft will be interesting to say the least with how the front office views guys like Fultz, Suggs, Cole, and Houstan. It’s a good problem to have, but they can’t really address anything with their selection without making tough choices on who they want to pay.

Re: Orlando Magic Big Board (2nd Pick)
First pick for the Orlando Magic Big Board has completed and the choice was Victor Wembanyama with 21 votes. One vote registered for Amen Thompson. Now on to pick #2, which should be much more divisive.

Re: Orlando Magic Big Board (2nd Pick)
To be fair i'm going Scoot. In what should be an obvious upgrade for us at the no 1 with tons of room to grow.
The Magic PG hierarchy
1) Hardaway
2) Nelson
3) Arenas
4) Skiles
5) Armstrong
The Magic traditionally have been woeful at the floor general spot. Scoots proposed floor is arguably better to where Fultz is now and nowhere but up.
Also in my head, we already have the "F" position locked down for the next 10 years.

Re: Orlando Magic Big Board (2nd Pick)
I'm with you. A chance to have a franchise caliber PG doesn't come around to Orlando very often. His strengths in athleticism and the pick n roll are mouth watering.JoshuaPotter wrote:To be fair i'm going Scoot. In what should be an obvious upgrade for us at the no 1 with tons of room to grow.

3 votes for Miller so far? He isn’t the same tier as Scoot for me and it’s not close.
