Jokic was rusty and didn't play his best. Giannis had a great performance as well.

We'll see how the voters decide.

Its over dude. It's locked up. We can finally focus in the playoffs now.

Last week this time folks here were calling Embiid puzzy for ducking the Denver game. They said Jokic had it in the bag, coffin nailed, case closed. "Embiid can suck my ass."

A week later, it's over for Jokic and Giannis? Just within a week??

I don't believe it. Either this award is a joke, or we are a joke.

Great game against Embiid, but I feel like we have short term memory.

Just wanted to check if you're happy for everyone to just use short term memory now?

P.S. if we don't then someone might notice that Philly are only 5-5 over their last 10. Worst last 10 of any team with 45+ wins.

P.P.S. because of how MVP voting works Embiid did wrap it up today.

Again as I've mentioned. He has been dominant all season. He turned it up post all star break, and had Philly surging right when Jokic had a 4 game winning streak. That brought him back into the conversation and evened up the straw poll.

Then he went through a lul, didn't play the Denver game and had an average few games after that. If he had another crappy one today, I'd say he'd be in great danger of losing the MVP.

As much as the MVP is a season long award, recency bias is a big thing. Since the All star break Embiid has been ridiculous. Jokic has been great, and Giannis has been great. Embiid has just been better though. Last year IMO he lost the MVP with a bunch of losses to good teams. This season, he had one loss against the Bucks, and 1 win aganist the Celtics. I think the sting of missing the game against Denver is softened a little with Jokic missing the next few games.

This is what people talk about when they say the media goes out of its way to discredit Embiid. They say Jokic didnt play today, insinuating that he has a chance for a rebuttal. Only to realize that he did play at the end. Almost like they're trying to limit how much people know that Jokic had a horrible game.

Obviously the games matter more once the team is 96% locked into their current seed, right?

No one says the media discredits Embiid, other than Philly fans, and they are saying that because of the emotional damage of the last two years, and the fact that you all hate Jokic. The media is and always been anti-Jokic, and if you use this year as an example, when the narrative was that he literally wins because he is white, well... Probably not a good year to use as example. Obviously they are idiots for saying he didn't play, but this has nothing to do with Embiid or Jokic, and has everything to do with them being idiots who don't even follow the NBA regularly, despite talking about it.

He had a hell of a game no doubt.

I said this in the game thread - the Celtics usually double team Embiid when Rob is out and Al is usually the primary defender. This game they didn't do either. Heck, they even sat deep on the Embiid/Harden pick and roll all night. Joel has open mid range shots all night and we know he's money from there. Mazzulla was either not showing his hand for the playoffs or is the dumbest coach in the world. I'm thinking it was the first. This game really didn't mean anything to either side, so I think he wanted to the Celtics could win playing that way. It nearly worked but I'll put a lot of money on it that if they meet in the playoffs, he'll be defended completely differently.

I’m a little pissed off that a disingenuous racist narrative is about to lead to the biggest MVP robbery since Dave Cowens beat Kareem in 1973, costing me $4000, yes. You can’t argue with people who don’t care about logic.

Call it what you want, Embiid is more than deserving. Jokic just missed the last 3 games, and was ass today.

I think it's the former. I think they will hard double and maybe even triple in the playoffs, and this was an attempt at gamesmanship. Think Brown and Rob Will not playing was another example of that. The Celtics defense the last few minutes was more reminiscent of how they'll probably play Embiid. Force him to pass and have others beat you. We had some rare PJ three pointers which I'm not confident in him hitting. Al

Robert Williams has no chance guarding embiid. Never has. He’s just too small. He’s mobile and with really good wingspan which helps.

The way Celtics have stopped or hindered embiid or even frustrated embiid is with help defensive schemes like you mentioned. Help defenders lurking nearby. But I can see them just blitzing embiid to give up the ball. Just let other players make the shots. The nba is a make or miss league. While sixers don’t attempt as many 3 point shots as Celtics. Sixers lead the league in 3 point shooting percentage.

You can’t leave shooters open with sixers. PJ just made those shots at the end. Celtics will live with that.

The way the Celtics can and will hinder Embiid is running the floor, turning defense into transition offense, protecting the basketball with smart shot creators. Lets not forget that Jaylen Brown didn’t play, he is the guy who always kills the 76ers.
