Game 80. Tankards at Hawks

Post#1 » by Jay81 » Wed Apr 5, 2023 6:43 pm

Must lose game tonight.

I think Pacers might beat Knicks tonight or pistons later in the week. Knicks have their seed locked up and cant really move up or down. Brunson is out tonight.

I think Orlando can beat the Cavs on Thursday as it might me a big rest day for the Cavs.

Portland needs to beat San Antonio.

This "non-Covid illness" was certainly well-timed!

I'm just thankful that they'll have a long off season to rest & recover; otherwise, I'd be really worried.

Of course, you know that when the FO starts making excuses for the season, they'll include all these missed games among the reasons for our record. :)

Atlanta is tied with Toronto for the 8th/9th seed so they have real motivation to win out and ensure they get 2 chances to win a play-in game and make the playoffs. (With the 9th seed, if you lose the first play-in game, you are out.)

Indy's final 3 games are vs NYK, vs DET and @ NYK. Their opponent has nothing to play for in all 3 games, but neither do the Pacers. The Knicks will probably rest their best players, but I expect their second-units to still defeat the Pacers because they will at least WANT to win the game. That Detroit game should be pretty tanktastic, but Detroit doesn't really get hurt if they win the game so they will probably be more motivated to win. (Fun fact: Detroit has lost 20 of their last 21 games, and that one win was against Indy.)

Orlando's final 3 games are vs CLE, @BRK, and @MIA. All 3 look like losses because their opponents have something to play for. Though to be fair, it looks like Orlando isn't really interested in tanking and would rather win and build momentum for the future, so they could conceivably win any of them. It's also possible that Miami will have their seeding sewn up by the final game and will instead rest everybody.

Portland's final 3 games are @SAS, @LAC, and vs GSW. They will lose them all unless Golden State has their position sewn up before the final game. (Golden State truly sucks on the road.)

Cavs don’t really have motivation to win. They are not catching Philly

Yeah, I suppose that's true. They don't have a motivation to actively lose though. At best, they will be motivated to rest their starters. But their second stringers will still be trying as hard as they can to win the game. That would be enough against an overtly tanking team like us, Portland or Indy. But I suppose one can argue that Orlando isn't really tanking yet. They still care.

Can't decide if the back to back games helps or hurts?

Another strong start. Goodwin and Davis are a very solid backcourt defensively, plenty of deflections. 3 combined steals in 6 mins of play!

Nunn is captain tank defensively. He gets in for Davis and good things happen for the Hawks offensively…

Nunn is so bad. It’s gotta suck to play with him. Dude just puts his head down and says “I’m shooting this” every other play

Challenging a foul call and having the verdict not only confirming the foul but UPGRADING it to a flagrant-1 is quite possibly the most #sowizards thing I’ve ever seen.

Wow. Nunn is so hard to watch. What a terrible selfish player.

He is a black hole offensively and defensively…not sure why the heck he is playing…Jackson/Goodwin/Davis should be taking all minutes at the 1-2…

Johnny Davis with another good performance tonite by the way. Solid both sides of the court! And playing aggressive and with confidence!

Davis just looks like a good NBA player to me. He’s a plus on both ends. He and Goodwin are easy to root for

Not to mention -- how about the first half Jay Huff just had!

Not to be confused with Huffing a Jay, what PIF is usually doing.
