That's because you got some self proclaimed draft experts who think a team is built on paper or NBA 2k.

Hey I know you and Clyde are auditioning for a spot on an NBA team for your amazing scouting reports and in game analysis. Why waste your time on us when you're destined for greater things?

You really have no clue do you? They drafted Jordan Poole and James Wiseman, both high usage offensive players. LaMelo could easily replace Poole and run the second unit. It's amazing people like you make excuses for passing on him. Warriors fans...sigh :banghead:

LaMelo would not be happy coming off the bench. Do you really think he would jive with a strict dude like Kerr? How would he react with some time in the G-league? He certainly won't take it easily unlike Poole and Wiseman. It's amazing people like you don't look at the whole picture. "Draft experts"...sigh :banghead:

You seem to not remember recent history. Let me bring you up to speed. You see Klay Thompson missed two seasons due to injury. They literally drafted Wiseman on the day Klay tore his ACL. James Wiseman, a rookie, and maybe one of the dumbest players of all time, started 27 games that season for Kerr and Kelly Oubre maybe the second dumbest player of all time started 50. So yeah…I think LaMelo could have easily won a starting spot that season. Lol it’s not really even a question.

Do you ever have original thoughts about basketball though? Doesn’t seem like it from what I reading here. Have fun with your friends reading old tweets though. Sounds like a real incel of a time. Lol

Okongwu would have been a better pick than JW and Lamelo and I know we had interest in him. Lamelo’s in his 3rd season now and still doesn’t effect winning. He’s more of a GQ hot dog solid gold than anything.

This take is going to look so dumb in a few years. LaMelo is a savant on a **** team with **** management and ownership. It’s literally the worst situation in the NBA. He would have killed playing with us. Obvious pick. Obvious L for the FO.

LaMelo was not an obvious pick at all at the time, and there was literally zero reason to believe he would be as effective as he was in the NBA from the jump.

Am I in the wrong thread?

Melo wasn't in the same draft class as Moody was he?

Every time Steve Kerr thinks to put in Lamb, he should put in Moody instead. Just a personal opinion.
He's got a higher ceiling than Lamb and he mostly doesn't hurt us. And, he has improved on the one thing that was most glaring, defensive rotations. He needs reps and we're going to need points coming from outside of the top 7-8 at some point.

he plays like Poole. They’re playing pickup basketball in the NBA.

He was literally the obvious pick that everyone in here didn't want. Love the revisionist history. In fact you can tell how good LaMelo is by how much people pretend they didn't want him and there was "no way the FO could draft him". LMAO

The revisionist history is pretending like it was an obvious pick. It wasn’t.

LaMelo had height and special passing/spacial awareness.

His weaknesses? Strength, athleticism, defense.

Part of the reason why he was so good as a rookie was the fact that he essentially came into the league as an elite three-point shooter (when you combine volume, efficiency, and shot creation), and nothing about anything he did post high school (in Lithuania and Australia) suggested he would be such a good shooter right out of the box in the NBA. Just look at his numbers in those leagues and his very unconventional shot mechanics.

Anybody claiming they “knew” he’d shoot so well are either Monday morning QBing, lying, or patting themselves on the back for an illogical take that just happened to come true. You can hit a 19 in Blackjack and win— that doesn’t make it smart.

It’s not about whether we knew he’d shoot or not. He was number one on my board because it was worth the risk regardless. A tall savant point guard who was the second youngest player in the class.

You do realize that just because you didn’t get it right, doesn’t mean it wasn’t the correct and obvious pick? It’s just that some of us do this better than others. You should be able to admit when you get it wrong. It’s ok sometimes I’m wrong. But LaMelo wasn’t one of those times.

I’m more than willing to admit when I got it wrong. I thought Deron Williams and James Harden were awful 1st round picks.

That isn’t the case here, and you know it. Edwards, Wiseman, and LaMelo could’ve gone in any order in the top 5 and it would’ve been considered reasonable.

Your “it was SO obvious” take is pure hindsight grandstanding. That, or illogical arrogance that was rewarded by dumb luck.

I provided actual reasons for my take…you provided your opinion.

Only Warriors fans didn’t like LaMelo for weird reasons. Everyone else saw what he was. You can only blame yourself for not seeing it.

I don’t know if you should pat yourself on the back yet, he hasn’t really done anything in this league except fill up the stat sheet on bad teams. They’ve been one of the worst defenses and he’s a big contributor to that. He hasn’t improved on his shooting either. He’s got a lot going for him and will be around the league for a long time but I question whether he’ll actually contribute to winning.

Is Poole contributing to winning because he happens to be on GS? Would he be contributing to winning in Charlotte? Would LaMelo be contributing to winning if he swapped places with Poole (or Wiseman)?
