We need to start talking about him getting a max and what kind of dollar range we're looking at.
It would surely make us a tax team.

Not sure Porzingis will be in high demand given his injury history. I think he may agree to stay at a team-friendly deal in the $120-40mn/4 year range (PO at the end).
Kuzma on the other hand may be more challenging to resign...I fear Tommy giving him +$30mn/year and for 5-years..which is an overpay. Kuzma at $20mn/year may be good value, at +$30mn/year is a clear over pay.

According to this tweet, Porzingis appears to be convinced he is here for the long-term..

Seems like he has been on quite a roll lately. I haven't been watching so i am curious about what is going on. Is it because he is playing the 4 now? Is he playing differently or just hitting his jumpers at a higher rate?

I think he's hitting his 3s jumper at a high rate. Frist extended stretch that he's playing with Beal - not only is it harder to double but since Beal draws fouls, Washington finds itself in more situations where it can get penalty free throws so Porzingis has perfected embellishing contact, and alternates it by going hard as a rim runner to get those highlight plays at the rim. Also there have been quite a few games where Porzingis has a very favorable matchup- Portland without Nurkic twice- the Warriors, Charlotte (Plumlee couldn't guard him from the perimeter).

Porzingis used to be exclusively a 5. But now with Gafford playing more, Wes is evaluating the matchups and then puts Porzingis in the most favorable matchup. On some nights, that means Gafford plays more and we feed KP at the 4 if the other team can't guard him in the mid post. On other nights, we play Gafford less and let KP feast on a slow-footed center who doesn't want to chase him out to the arc.

This. Wes takes flack, but this board has posters who complain that we never play 2-big line-ups. With Zinger and Gaff he has. Wes has found tweaks here and there to maximize the chemistry of the players we have. Maybe the complaint is fair that he is slow to adjust, I think he is still experimenting, learning his personnel.
We lack top talent. We have a mix of pretty good players, talented but incomplete, low ceiling role-players, undrafted free agents, g-league graduates, and cast-offs from other teams. It's Wes' fault that we don't win? I don't know if I buy it. Seems to me when he has his best players they commonly run up the score on the opposition -- even if we then leak it away late game. Other teams get quality contributions from their draft picks. We traded 10th pick Rui for what will probably be a few 2nd round draft and stash Euro's, or throw ins on marginal trades. Johnny D can't get on the court because of 'injuries' to his Basketball ability muscle. Kendrick Nunn was playing behind 2 guys who have been released now. We used up the eligibility of Jordan Goodman, but fans wouldn't even know about him if Wes hadn't found ways to wedge him into the line-up-- once it was clear that Will Barton's biggest talent was Nikola Jokic. All this time I had to entertain myself trolling Israel because Deni was politely asking permission to be a basketball player instead of you know, competing and earning it.
Seems to me Wes has made adjustments and tweaks, to the point where we actually have gone on win streaks. Under Wes' concepts, Porzingis is earning career best numbers across the board. And some part of his health (knock wood) seems to be in part that he is not being asked to bang underneath with the monsters, but is allowed to play to his strengths as a mobile face-up Big. A forward with the altitude of a 5. Likewise it has been a while since Beal was playing this efficiently. Pick a player. Kendrick Nunn. Deni. Monte. Kuzma. All are posting career best numbers right now.
I still hold onto the idea that Wes and the stat nerds may be intentionally sticking with losing lines in order to tiptoe on the line of play-in -vs- lotto slot. Experimenting at times mid-game, or for a few games in a row. Because overall we are not skilled enough to win against the real contenders in a fair fight. We need cheap upgrades in talent. The draft is the best chance we've got. Wes is a smart guy. He knows that. We need to sell tickets, sell Ted, and still plausibly lose if we have to.

Watched KP on NBA-TV. He repped the Zards well. KP has good sense of humor.

Re: Porzinga! Kristaps Porzingis appreciation thread.
I just hope if he is resigned, he goes back to center where he plays much better, especially on defense. Gafford next to him in certain matchups is fine, but it is not a long-term, every game solution in today's NBA. Gafford is simply not mobile enough or has enough range to make it work night in and night out. It also force KP to the 4, which he is just not suited to guard whether it be the quickness or the position or having to more often switch out on perimeter players.
Gafford should be a 6th man. He and a PNR guard should come off the bench together and let them go to work with the second unit.

Really like KPs game , but is this dumb as franchise really about to lock up Beal, KP, and Kuzma to long term deals where it’s evident this team will never be more than a 8 or 9 seed with those 3 leading the charge? Hilariously depressing. It’s like telling someone not to put a fork in an electrical socket and then they do it anyway.

Fair enough. That applies to your guy Monte as well doesn't it?
