Not a bust, but not as good as I expected. It amazes me how much he struggles to finish at the rim, especially. Just no touch there. So many missed layups.

Either you have that or you don't. RJ does not. That in and of itself doesn't mean that he can't be a net positive on our team. In order for that to happen, however, he needs to either make some improvement or some adjustments, which he hasn't make so far ... or take his game to a team that's a better match.

Na, he just skipped his Jumpsoles workout!
We should trade him to Toronto in the offseason. They would welcome him, as a hometown kid and we take Og

Yes, agreed! (I knew I should've bought a pair of those.I remember see them advertised on the back pages of The Sporting News magazines I subscribed to as a teen back in the early 70s. Thanks for making feel like an old white dude. Those look like Bobby Jones's or Tom Chambers's calves.)
Those things and the ball hog/gloves dude amust be the most useless basketball products ever!

Right now, he is just a 20 min/game, 10-12 ppg role player off the bench.
He should never be given the responsibility of holding the ball and working the shot clock for a one-on-one move. He should not have plays run for him - he should be there just to take advantage if an opportunity presents itself within the flow of the offense.
The Knicks need to remove the notion that he is any sort of "option" on offense. He may very well develop into that but his foundational skills and athletic ability don't seem to point to that being a highly probable and consistent outcome.

bingo. i've been saying for years that no good team would ever give him this many touches. but because he was picked 3rd here and they marketed him as an upcoming star they gave him free reign. but this isn't a bad team anymore and they're still doing it when he was never built for that to begin with.

Im not saying that, he is too similar to Randle and thats the issue. All these leftys that want to hold the ball.
We would benefit from a Murphy, Bridges, OG, type of wing

I understand - and you pointed out "at best". I probably should have been clearer - I just used your comment as a springboard, not necessarily a rebuttal to your post as it seems our opinions are pretty similar.

I was pro RJ and previously voted No, but am now firmly in the Bust Camp!! RJ sucks!! Praying they can unload his scrub ass. This is what you do fresh of a huge contract signing, and half-way decent season? come on bruh.

Maybe RJ surprises us and has some big playoff games. He's had some good games this year. He's just too inconsistent.
He's just not a good fit with our starting lineup. Coach K did RJ and injustice by giving him a 100% green light to chuck it up no matter how badly he was missing. And the Knicks did him no better buy allowing him to continue that practice. That's my opinion.
There's also a report that RJ didn't really work hard last summer after he signed his extension. Maybe he was upset that he didn't get a max deal. If true, then that's a sign of immaturity on his part.
i think the combination of slow starts every single season and the comments about how he hits his shots when he stays late to shoot a ton of them by thibs intersect as evidence that he doesn't work hard outside of team practices

How do we get rid of him? Never thought I'd see the day when I valued JHart more than RJ.

Westbrick was the Panacea for every bad contract we had. We could have packaged, RJ, Fournier, Rose and a 1st rounder for his expiring and then just waived him. Everyone called me an idiot.

all RJ has to do is play JUST like hart and his higher talent level would make him a really good player

Maybe the '24 FRP. Certainly not this year. But yea, he has to get his head out of his ass to boost his trade value.

Yeah, but Hart is an exceptional guy, effort wise, even among NBA players.

Re: Is RJ Barrett a bust?
Hypothetical question. If we trade RJ to the Mavs for the 10th pick, would the Mavs still need to convey a pick to us next year as part of the KP trade?
