OMG! Injuries strike fast and plenty
Man, what the hell! Just Game 1 in of every series and we've got injuries to Paul George, Tyler Herro, Ja Morant, Giannis and Jordan Poole and I might be missing some others. Aahh, just sucks. Luckily, Giannis lower back contusion seems nothing serious, just like Poole's and Morant's pains, but man what a fright.
For Miami and Clipperland it just sucks, but what a world they both stole Game 1 on the road against title favourites.

I made a post about it last week. I think i jinxed it.
Just hoping it doesnt get as bad as last year, which to me was the worst of all times.

And we still have yet to see the annual Embiid getting injured in R1, just a matter of time...

For real. It'd be nice to have some data on all of this, load management and statistics on injuries.

Nah, every single team the warriors beat had an injury to one of their top two and that doesnt include the lakers and bucks issues. Didnt Kyrie go down too? It was bad!!!

If players aren't in playoff mode, I'd think the risk for injury increases.
Organization can be defined as an organized body of people with a particular purpose. Not random.

guess they’d rather you’d get injured in the playoffs than reg seasonDoctorX wrote:So much for load management.
Still think the whole thing is pointless. There’s really no true way to prevent an injury in basketball. Simply stepping on someone’s foot can end your season

No idea but Giannis, Herro, and Ja all were nasty falls and either broken bones or contusions. Those are bad luck (Refer to Giannis thread for my feelings on charges) and IMHO have zero to do with load management.

Spurs started this trend, but it was for Duncan and Manu when they were around the age of 34-35 which made sense at that age since both were getting a lot of nagging injuries. I felt it extended both of those guys careers, but they were way past their prime and needed load management. Anybody below the age of 35 should not be doing load management.

True but Duncan had still played 74 games in 2014 and 77 games in 2015...Now this is out of control like crazy for almost every star in the league!

Seems like load management is more related to soft tissue issues like muscle strains/tears, tendons and ligaments. Wear and tear stuff that can build up over time.
Broken bones and contusions are impact injuries that can't really be avoided (bad luck as you said). There is no way to load manage yourself out of someone stepping on your hand.

Yeah I remember the 90s and 80s. Players going for 82 on broken feet and arms. When MJ injured his leg he kept going walking with his hands and shooting with his left leg.
Those were the days.

There's a video with a Tim Grover (ex-Michael Jordan trainer) interview, where he says that, the more players are load managed, the more they will be susceptible to injuries.
I tried searching for it on my browser history, couldn't find it...

Duncan might be the prime example of load management working. The Spurs basically started load management around 2012. Duncan was averaging sub-30 minutes per game since 2011. Some form of load management was probably partly responsible for Duncan playing as long (and effectively) as he did.
It seems like load management has shifted from "random back to backs off + reduced minutes" to "more full games off + normal (higher) minutes per game". Lebron, Durant and Curry play less games than Duncan did but they play far more minutes per game.
(obviously Duncan's durability played a part in him playing as long as he did and it wasn't all load management)

I'm kind of on the fence on this.
I saw a poster in here say more load management makes players more susceptible to injuries...
but on the other hand, doesn't this prove that teams sit out players for games here and there for the fear of freak injuries in random games just like in these game 1s? BUT also on the other hand, it seems like even if you load manage, players can still have freak injuries. My head hurts
