Austin Reaves

Post#1 » by cedric76 » Mon Apr 17, 2023 6:25 am

Great read if you are a Reaves fan

https://www.cbssports.com/nba/news/lakers-austin-reaves-is-making-a-leap-but-gilbert-arenas-rule-may-make-it-hard-for-la-to-pay-him-for-it/

Especially, his potential contract structure

2023-24

$11,368,000

2024-25

$11,936,400

2025-26

$36,850,000

2026-27

$38,525,000

Total

$98,679,400

Meaning that if we sign him this summer to such a contract, we could still be a Free agent player next summer

However, once we extend PB and Franz our payroll would be huge

TBH, he fit the bill for our team

Can hit the 3
Can pass the ball
Huge FT rate
Decent Defender
Suggs, Tyus, Jase
Bane, AB, Jett
Franz, TDS,
P5, JI, Panda

He can shoot, but how good is his defense? Just wondering, as i really dont know, and guard defense is not really shown in stats.

Good, he is smart. Not a lockdown defender, but a plus defender for sure, uses his size well, and almost always in the right position, kind of like 38-year-old Kidd did.

Players limited by the Arenas provision, like Reaves, cannot make more than the non-taxpayer mid-level exception in the first year of a new deal when they sign an offer sheet with another team. Their second-year salary on such a contract would see only a 5% increase in salary.

Interestingly, Austin Reaves is a German citizen. So maybe that's something.

Virtually every metric praises his defense, and the eye test supports him there. Reaves was far more advanced than most rookies in terms of footwork and floor-navigation a year ago, but lacked the physical strength to hold his own in the post or fight through screens. He's bulked up this season, and at 24, he still has room for both literal and figurative growth. Every team in the NBA wants an Austin Reaves.

Dave McMenamin left Franz off the first team, all rookie in favor of Reaves.

I heard Franz call him out for that on a podcast, and I believe he insinuated he was better than Reaves.

It looked like Reaves had a little extra for Franz when we played. We were on the second night of a b2b.

What I like about him is he's smart.

JVG touched on it yesterday when he said he seems to always know when it's the right time to shoot, pass and put it on the floor. You can't say that about the majority of NBA players which is crazy.

Plus he has skill and really wants to win.

To me, he's like having another Franz. Question is, is that what we need most?

The fact that he thinks he's HIM while riding the coattails of Lebron and AD is a bit of a red flag to me. What would he think his position is in the Magic hierarchy?

He probably thinks Paolo should fetch him coffee while Franz shouldn't hold his jock-strap?

I don’t know how I feel about sending a lot of money his way for a small sample size of great play. He’s young enough to be a perfect fit for this team so that’s the plus

There once was a 20 year old player coming off of a 15/3/6 season. Those stats led to the Magic maxing said player. Those were the third year stats of Mr. McGrady.

It is a the progression of Reaves that is interesting. As a replacement for G-Harris he would be projected at least as a 13/3/3 SG that plays above average defense. That is a HUGE upgrade to what Orlando now has. Reaves seems certain to get at least 3-years and 60M from some team. I am ok if that is with Orlando.

Have you not been reading the latest? Supposedly UTA is willing to go 4yrs/95m which the Lakers will match. 3/60 is a bargain
