What should the NBA do with Draymond Green?

Post#1 » by Dirk » Tue Apr 18, 2023 11:36 am

Apologies if the topic is somewhat redundant, but wanted to have a poll on what should happen with Draymond Green.

I obviously think this should be a multiple game suspension. You can't do what he did and then instigate a fight with fans. And a history of punching should come into play here as well...maybe. It will be curious to see what the NBA stands for. Cuddling a WWE type clown who continues to mock the game or actually enforcing some discipline.

Image

I really struggle to understand why Green gets to play with different rules than other players - I never get to see other players get away with playing with his aggressiveness on defense... I don't see them getting away with barking as much as he does (and I have PSTD from watching every Luka game).

I will never get over this guy throwing a vicious punch on teammate and not getting any real punishment. His coach/team just worries about whoever leaked the video. The NBA does nothing.

That should have been a multiple game suspension right there. He didn't miss a game.

Unsurprisingly, when you don't punish bullies/clowns, they think they can do anything. So fast forward to playoffs.

Game 1, literally just sits on top of Sabonis, ref looking straight at it.

Spoiler:

Game 2, runs into Sabonis (you're not that naive, he clearly knew Sabonis was there, after all, Green's all game is about his superior IQ))

Spoiler:

Call overturned though! Green got the benefit of the doubt. I'm not mad at that one, but I know he wasn't innocent there.

The infamous stomp then happens

(having his leg grabbed doesn't justify what he did afterwards, he easily released his leg... before stepping on Sabonis). I kind of feel like right at the end as he was stomping Sabonis he pulled back, but was too late. The stomp looks really bad.

After that stomp, his actions were even worse... he was straight up trying to instigate a fight with the fans.

This guy is objectively a complete douchebag, why does the NBA allow it? How can this be explained?

I won't talk about Steve Kerr or the Warriors. They have their self interests above anything else and their hypocrisy has long been exposed.

One of the greater "what ifs" in the NBA is what would Draymond Green look like if he didn't play for a powerhouse team. The word exposed really comes to mind if this guy had been drafter by a Detroit type team that didn't have a generational player about to transform the game.

Depends on how injured Sabonis, he should miss how many games he does. If Sabonis is healthy he shouldn’t be suspended

The fact that Sabonis could have suffered a significant injury on a non-basketball play should be enough to warrant a multi-game suspension.

The angle from the Kings broadcast makes it look a lot worse than the TNT broadcast.

3 games at least. If not more.
1 for the act itself.
1 for being a repeat offender of these bull crap injury causing dirty plays.
1 for trying to instigate the fans into a fight.

Should be a minimum 3 game suspension of not more. Honestly tired of this jack ass and the bull shot he does trying to play a victim after. F him.

They should give him a flagrant 2, which they did. They add up over time.

Nah, you don't get to curb stomp another player and get away with it. He's done for a few games.

It's the PO and his team is down 0-2, I don't think suspension is warranted, Stern would've suspended his ass though...

1 game suspension, but the league needs to look at itself, ask why Draymond gets to operate like this without major repercussion. I don't wanna be the conspiracy guy that thinks the NBA coddles the Warriors, but ...

Love got 2 games, so that's the precedent. The stuff with the crowd could make it worse, but I'll stick with 2.

He's going to get a game at least. Sabonis deserves additional punishment as well for the acting.

Up against the wall isn’t an option, so I guess a multiple game suspension will do

This clown is becoming Rodman-like.

I think the league will suspend him 1 game, but on top of his on-court actions, Green completely lied about what actually happened in the post conference. To me this warrants at least a 2-game suspension, if not a 3-game suspension.

I think under Stern he would definitely get more than a 1 game suspension, but under Silver (he tend to be softer on players) green may either get no suspension or 1 game.

Multiple games. His past history comes into play here.

He's been kicking people in the nuts for years, now he's stomping on their chests (and yeah, I get Sabonis grabbed his ankle, but still...)

I remember watching an interview with Rasheed Wallace, Bonzi Wells and Tim Donaghy about a few years ago. Rasheed asked Donaghy if the league tells the refs directly to rig games for teams and Donaghy's response "They don't tell us directly they want a certain team to win but they do send us a memo of how they want us to ref players and based on that memo is how we call games. For example, we got a memo once in which Phil Jackson had complained about a certain player that was getting away with traveling so the league told us the next game to watch out for this player and we started calling multiple travels on him." My theory is the league sends a memo to the refs to tolerate Draymond's outbursts and to not eject him quickly like other players.

This.

I'm leaning toward two games, but I wouldn't be surprised if he only gets one because Sabonis did hook and hold on to his foot. I'm curious whether the league will consider his ejection a suspension...

Further punishment for riling up the fans would be extreme. Opposing players frequently do that stuff; he may get a fine for trash-talking the fans.

Three games. Two for the stomp, one for not exiting the court expediently and instigating the fans which showed no remorse at all.

Draymond continues this behavior because there have been no consequences. He got away clean from the Jordan Poole incident and learned nothing. Assaulting other players and being completely unapologetic is more unacceptable then Ja Morant trying to pose as a drill rapper in the club.

I feel like he should be suspended multiple games and fined and need to undergo some counseling.
