Re: What should the NBA do with Draymond Green?
It's not just Green who gets a different rulebook, the Warriors as a whole have consistently gotten away with massacring the rulebook.
The moving screens they set are in the KG+Perkins Celtics territory of bad. Just unbelievable the advantage it creates for shooters...
On the original topic though - given his history 2 games seem fair, it's more likely he gets none though.

No suspension. Sabonis initiated the entire situation with a blatant non basketball play by double arm locking Greens ankle while in transition. A move that is absolutely dangerous and uncalled for. Green responded with a non basketball play to free himself, as is his right.

Re: What should the NBA do with Draymond Green?
I would give 3 or more, but now it's early morning and I'm calm and just finished drinking my coffee and I'm not in the heat of the game, so...
However, we have to understand this is Adam Silver's league... I think he will get 1 game, and maybe no suspension at all (just a fragrant 2).
As a Warriors fan, I would like to say that I don't like, NEVER LIKED, Draymond's ****... it just irritates me to a deep end.
I didn't like it when he punched Poole and nothing happened, and now this... well, all things have an expiration date.

I remember watching an interview with Rasheed Wallace, Bonzi Wells and Tim Donaghy about a few years ago. Rasheed asked Donaghy if the league tells the refs directly to rig games for teams and Donaghy's response "They don't tell us directly they want a certain team to win but they do send us a memo of how they want us to ref players and based on that memo is how we call games. For example, we got a memo once in which Phil Jackson had complained about a certain player that was getting away with traveling so the league told us the next game to watch out for this player and we started calling multiple travels on him." My theory is the league sends a memo to the refs to tolerate Draymond's outbursts and to not eject him quickly like other players.
Yes, that's what I always thought how it worked... not a "rigging memo" per se, but a basic orientation and some """tips & recommendations""" to follow... thanks for posting this, kind sir.

Leaning towards 1 game suspension. If his ankle wasn't grabbed like that, i'd say multi game.

He was suspended from the team for nearly 2 weeks after the Poole event. Just wild people continue to claim he wasn't punished. But yeah a game seems reasonable here. I don't think Sabonis is without fault in this. I however will not be paying to see the WWE match between these two over the summer.

Suspend him for 1 game to send a message. If he start this again, suspend him for multiple without pay. Players hate it when it gets them in their bank accounts.

Should be two games because of his history. Probably will only be 1 because his action was provoked by the ankle grab.

Players rile up the fans. But walking that near to them and screaming is a problem. Could have an incident.
My guess is one game on top of whatever progression there is for flagrants.

Draymond mentioned that Monk grabbed his foot in game 1 too. Does anyone have a clip, by chance?

I obviously think this should be a multiple game suspension. You can't do what he did and then instigate a fight with fans. And a history of punching should come into play here as well...maybe. It will be curious to see what the NBA stands for. Cuddling a WWE type clown who continues to mock the game or actually enforcing some discipline.
I really struggle to understand why Green gets to play with different rules than other players - I never get to see other players get away with playing with his aggressiveness on defense... I don't see them getting away with barking as much as he does (and I have PSTD from watching every Luka game).
I will never get over this guy throwing a vicious punch on teammate and not getting any real punishment. His coach/team just worries about whoever leaked the video. The NBA does nothing.
That should have been a multiple game suspension right there. He didn't miss a game.
Unsurprisingly, when you don't punish bullies/clowns, they think they can do anything. So fast forward to playoffs.
Game 1, literally just sits on top of Sabonis, ref looking straight at it.Spoiler:
Game 2, runs into Sabonis (you're not that naive, he clearly knew Sabonis was there, after all, Green's all game is about his superior IQ))Spoiler:
Call overturned though! Green got the benefit of the doubt. I'm not mad at that one, but I know he wasn't innocent there.
The infamous stomp then happens
(having his leg grabbed doesn't justify what he did afterwards, he easily released his leg... before stepping on Sabonis). I kind of feel like right at the end as he was stomping Sabonis he pulled back, but was too late. The stomp looks really bad.
After that stomp, his actions were even worse... he was straight up trying to instigate a fight with the fans.
This guy is objectively a complete douchebag, why does the NBA allow it? How can this be explained?
I won't talk about Steve Kerr or the Warriors. They have their self interests above anything else and their hypocrisy has long been exposed.
One of the greater "what ifs" in the NBA is what would Draymond Green look like if he didn't play for a powerhouse team. The word exposed really comes to mind if this guy had been drafter by a Detroit type team that didn't have a generational player about to transform the game.
Nothing to see here, move along people. Sab purposely grabbed Green's ankle and caused Green to tripped and inadverstly stepped on Sab's chest. INothing of this could have happened if Sab didn't grab Green's ankle. NOthing to see here. Lick your wounds and move on.

Anything other than a multi game suspension would be a joke. Draymond really let his teammates down. 4 point game and he's pulling this bush league crap.

Nothing will happen in my opinion. I don’t like him like most people, but sabonis did hold on to him for a bit. He did stomp on him, not sure to what degree but he played afterwards. I think what will get him if anything will be the taunting to the fans, which will result in a fine.

This is nothing new for Draymond, but since he has always gotten away with this ****, it graduaklly gets worse and worse with him.
He is a piece of ****, but GSW merchandise and games sell on TV...that is why he has never really been punished.
But he has a HUGE track record of intentionally trying to hurt people.
He tried to hurt Tatum and Brown last finals, how many nts have been kicked by him now, Sabonis stomp, inciting the fans.
This NEEDS to be a suspension.

sabonis shouldn't have grabbed his leg but draymond used that as an excuse to act as violently as he wants to.
it's like being poked in the arm so you punch the guy in the face as retaliation. anyone who does that is taking it too far. with draymond having a history of this stuff he should be suspended.

This.
I'm leaning toward two games, but I wouldn't be surprised if he only gets one because Sabonis did hook and hold on to his foot. I'm curious whether the league will consider his ejection a suspension...
Further punishment for riling up the fans would be extreme. Opposing players frequently do that stuff; he may get a fine for trash-talking the fans.
7 left in the 4th is kinda what I'd see as a very "iffy" zone for counting that. If it were the 2nd quarter, that's easy, you can count it. 2 minutes or less in the 4th, nope. 7? I dunno.

You know, I like to see myself, firstly, as a fan of the game itself... then, of a certain team. I just happen to love the sport and all that comes with it, all teams, with the exception that I like one team above all the other 29 ones.
Maybe that's because I live far away from the team (I'm in Brazil), so I'm not "infected" with this kind of "city vs city" (or "state vs state") rivalry that happens in many sports and countries... but that's just the way I am.
Cheers.

I actually had this take too at first, but if you watch the slo mo baseline view, Sabonis hits the ground and immediately brings his arms up to cover his head. In the process one arm wraps around Green's ankle for a moment, then Green yanks it up and does his stomp.
it's certainly possible Sabonis saw an opportunity to grab or trip Green in that moment, but it's impossible to watch the video objectively and say for sure one way or another what he intended to do.

It's hard to see the force or control by Dray, who despite his high IQ, is an uncoordinated oaf compared to most NBA players. Especially his lower body.
