This cat is the only reason why, if we absolutely had to, we could trade Jaylen Brown (Looking at you Joel)

Really has just had a great year all around and that shot went from being almost unshootable to money in less than a year. Pretty remarkable

Not sure how I found myself on the Celtics board, but damn I'm envious. I thought the Piston's board was pretty active, all things considered, but it's not even close. 750+ on a single player? I wish.

Since I'm here, I might as well post something on topic. I thought White always had a decent 3pt shot when he was in San Antonio, it was just on low volume wasn't it? I was unaware it was an issue for the Celtics.

Derrick White seems like one of those guys that doesn't really stand out on bad teams, but he's fit in perfectly in Boston in the games I've watched. I would think any playoff team would love to have him. I know the Nuggets would love to have him. Plus defender, moves the ball well, capable shooter, etc. In San Antonio he was able to create his own shot to an extent, but he definitely has limits.

Would I be way off base to compare his skillset and career arc to George Hill?

Alright, this isn't my turf, but I'm rooting for you guys to win the East over Milwaukee!

Cheers.

I like that George Hill comparison, there's a reason they are both Pop favorites. Both are exactly the kind of guards you want around star wings especially in the playoffs (great locker room guys, plus defenders, decent enough scorers/shooters to keep the defense honest and unselfish ball movers). The main difference is that Hill is a better shooter and White a better defender (especially protecting the rim).

White should be considered a starter at this point.

Smart/Pritchard
White/Brogdon
Brown/Hauser
Tatum/Grant

Ya'll still mad about trading the picks, Romeo and JRich for him? Or nah...

I think the better question is do you think the Celtics will win a championship the way Jason Tatum played in last years Finals? Of course not. If Derrick White played the way he did last season for the Celtics I would question the trade even with the intangibles White gives. JRich was a friend of Tatum's, made less money and had a definite scoring role. Now? I would make the trade for White every time.
White worked hard in the offseason and he got a comfort level shooting the ball. Tatum needs to play better in the Finals for the Celtics to win it. White has earned the accolades. There will be no more dissing him like Draymond did when Derrick had a good Finals game. He is a different, better player than last year

Derrick White post all star game stats

FG% 3PT 3P% FT FT% OR DR REB AST BLK STL PF TO PTS
48.7 1.9-5.0 37.1 2.4-2.7 90.3 0.9 3.3 4.2 4.0 1.0 0.4 2.0 1.4 14.0

He is playing super well, great defender, solid contrubtions scoring and moving the ball. I thought we needed to move one of him or smart earlier in the year, guess I was wrong.

It's par for the course, since it happens more than this board wants to admit, but that was so bad it can't be hand-waved away or ignored. White got cooked tonight.

Just a question, why were you awfully silent during the first 2 games when White was our best player for both of them ?

He doesn't like it when another player on the team doesn't match his ideal of a Tatum heliocentric team.

He never talks about White’s offense, it’s always about his defense. Which isn’t accurate either lol, but not sure what it has to do with a heliocentric Tatum offense.

Heliocentric systems tend to have role players who are restricted to 3 and D duties. White he needs the ball in his hands at times. So BCGM holds grudges against players on the team who don't fit his philosophy so he actively tries to put down those players in any way he can find

I have those winners on mute so I’ll answer through you. I don’t often talk in game threads because it’s full of whiners, homers and doomsayers. It’s exhausting. As to why I don’t talk about his offense, why would I? He’s a great role player and this season has been hitting his wide open threes. Nobody is delusional and calling for him to be named an all-star like they are claiming he’s DPOY caliber. So I don’t feel the need to keep people in check regarding his offense. He does his job on offense and is integral. I watch the games and that’s what my eyes tell me. They also tell me he regularly gets cooked on defense and it’s laughable that people think he’s worthy of all-defense. Even Jaylen is a better defender and he’s just barely above average. White is like our 5th best defender behind Tatum, Smart, Timelord and Jaylen but to read this thread you’d think he was our best. It’s dumb and deserves to be mocked so here I am!!
