Re: Is RJ Barrett a bust?
He’s still only 22 years old but he is starting to look like a loss cause on a potential bad contract. On the plus side , maybe Zion will complain to management to force a trade for RJ

Then it'll be, there's only 2 years left, he's an expiring.
He's a good role player.
Most expensive role player ever.

Re: Is RJ Barrett a bust?
This is his 4th year. At this point, we are making more excuses than we did with Frank N.
RJ has been given the keys to the team for years, started every game, and plays 30 MPG a game. Coaching even told him to make sure to hit 20 PPG no matter what.
He just proves to be inefficient.

Re: Is RJ Barrett a bust?
There's still some potential there... I'm not going to 100% write him off yet.
-> If he can fix his shot to 34% from three and then take fewer of them (3 or less per game)
-> If he can continue to improve his handle and rim finishing and post moves as he did this year
-> If he can get leaner, more burst, and more core strength via training so he's a better defender
...he can be a solid 17pt, 6rb, 4ast SF for many teams, for a long time. He's on track to become an elite rim attacker some day and there's a space for that in the NBA but he has to improve in those other areas I mentioned above. He has the work ethic to do it but it will take time and more patience.

When you make all of those adjustments, his TS% is still subpar and is more reminiscent of a NBA journeyman. He's just not good. Guys like Brogdon are coming off of teams benches. Also, the player you described as a potential finished product sounds a lot like Josh Hart... The new "hope" is that he turns into a less physically imposing Josh Hart. Noted (as I go vomit).

RJ is still young but he’s already played in and started nearly 300 NBA games. You combine that with his work ethic that gets praised and have to wonder when, if ever, is something gonna give.

Re: Is RJ Barrett a bust?
Post seasons are revealing him to be an "okay" regular season player and a sucky playoff performer.
In playoffs 32-92 (.348) and from 3s he's 9-36 (.250).
If he finishes this series shooting 12.5% from 3s, and 24% overall, we should start a go-fund-me for a one-way ticket back to Canada along with getting Dolan's word on banning French players (Nitikilina and Fournier) and players from countries where they speak a lot of French (RJ) from ever wearing a Knick jersey again.
Did they learn nothing from Frederick Weis????

To be fair, there have been a ton of players recently who are breaking out around 25...Fox, Lauri, Brown, Brunson, Randle, Jokic, Derozan, Lavine, Middleton, etc..Mikal taking it to another level. Even just last year a lot of people didnt want Fox.
This does not mean RJ will break out. He needs to show a lot more. Just that you never know

Re: Is RJ Barrett a bust?
Kid needs a tighter handle and a shot. Pretty much has been the same issues for 2-3 years now. His second year he improves his 3pt shot. 3rd year everything gets worse but he shows some shot creativity off the bounce. This year his game around the hoop gets better but everything else regresses.
He needs to **** put it all together. Just being a league average 3 ball makes him pretty solid efficiency wise I’d think. Just sad seeing so many random scrubs come off the bench confident in pulling 3s off the bounce and swishing and RJ still can’t do it

Let's hope that RJ doesn't become best friends with any superstars because I could see a scenario in which he tells them not to come to the Knicks because of how their fans throw players under the bus.

Sort of the same with Trevor Keels, right?

Then those players look at his stat lines and realize it's warranted.

Keels will be a superior player to RJ in 3 years

Re: Is RJ Barrett a bust?
He has no handle, he has no first step, he has no right hand, he has no post game, he has no 3 ball, he’s too slow on defense. His playmaking can be decent at times but he lacks the handle/step to make use of it.
I don’t even know where he should begin working on his game this summer when there’s so many things he has to work on.
All we need is for him to be a 3&D player. That’s all we actually need. Maybe he slims down a bit and works on his shot and calls it a summer.

Good thing Leon Rose locked him up a year early, those RFA offers would have broke the bank.

That’s cause those people were foolios.
This board is littered with players who people didn’t want that was better than what we had. Saying fans on this board didn’t want a player doesn’t hold much weight my dude.
Also all of the players you mentioned were better players than RJ from the rip in the overall picture.
