Re: 2023 NFL Draft Discussion - Bears Trade #1 to Panthers for DJ Moore + 4 Picks
I think three tight ends is the minimum that get picked in the first round, and there could be as many as five. Waiting to pick one up at 45 would be a mistake IMO.

This happened in 2017 (3 TE in the first) and all three looked like mistakes with their first team. Njoku, Engram, OJ Howard. Only Njoku is still with his team and it was ROCKY for a few seasons.
List of all the TE taken by year in the first since 2010
2010 Jermaine Gresham (pick 21)
2013 Tyler Eifert (21)
2014 Eric Ebron (10)
2017 Howard (19), Engram (23), Njoku (29)
2018 Hurst (25)
2019 Hockensen (8), Fant (20)
2021 Pitts (4)
That's it, that is the list. If you want to look at the top 10 picks or so of the 2nd round, that seems to be the range. I like this TE class way more in its depth and potential than its high end.

This guest is like watching paint dry, but every fan should listen from 19:05-20:05 and give it some thought. They are spot on IMO. Add in Aaron Jones and A.J. Dillon as the mythical "security blankets" for Love that fans use as the excuse to over draft a TE

I don't know of the host or the guest so I'm 100% not sitting through a 40 minute Q&A with a couple of randos.

It's 60 seconds - and I wouldn't expect you to. It's your loss

The more I watch JSN, the more hopeful I’m becoming that he’s gonna fall on our laps at 15. He’s insanely twitchy with explosive short area burst, he’s gonna be an absolute demon in the middle of the field.
RIP Kobe Forever. GOAT 8-24. Long Live Giannis

I'm not taking the bait. Continue to fan with a closed mind. You would draft TE's, WR's, and RB's. That's a lonely hill to die on

I watched the 60 second clip where a guy said that Watson was bigger, faster, and stronger than JSN. No ****, buddy.

Watson was the best athlete in last year's class. He was the 7th WR taken. That wouldn't change with their year's class. The same questions about route tree, production, and competition level would still be there. The guy's logic doesn't hold up.

And the part about value and investment when looking for the 3rd or 4th option for the offense vs the multiple other needs on the team just flew over your head ??

He thinks the Packers already have their first and second options. So I already think he’s clueless.

Says the guy that would draft TE's WR's and RB's in the First Round

Yes. Because I'm not an idiot that makes hard and fast rules about positions. All that matters is the prospect. You think the Bengals regret taking Chase over Sewell? Vikings taking Jefferson in the first round? Bills trading a 1st for DIggs? Dallas taking Lamb?
If a team thinks they're getting the next Travis Kelce, do you really think they would wait until the second or third round to get him?

Didn't you ban me for making similar attacks ? Must be nice to be able to ignore forum rules and yet ban others for them. Feeling pretty good about yourself ? Pretty much why I ignore you as much as possible

I've never banned anyone. I was a mod in the video game forum for about ten minutes.
But for the record, I don't believe even you have a rule about taking offensive skill positions in the first round. Because that would be idiotic, and I don't consider you idiotic.

Calling people who believe in positional value idiots sure is a take. I have zero issues with a team taking a 1st round WR, but there are certain positions where it's proven either don't provide a ton of value relative to other positions(RB, IOL, ILB), or others where quality players are consistently found late in the draft(TE)
Coach Drew: "Milwaukee has always been a team that I have been intrigued by. When we played them, they were a tough team for us to play. Although we did beat them all four times"

There's a difference between believing in positional value, and flatly saying you wouldn't ever take a [WR, TE, or RB] in the first round.
It's not like I've been overzealous in arguing for a tight end or running back in the first consistently over the years. Reggie Bush and Vernon Davis, probably?
I don't even love a WR in round one this year. I think I only listed two WRs I'm into this year, and both are down the list.
But I think the TE class is exceptional and I wouldn't trust that the Packers can get a star in the 2nd round. I also think Robinson is going to be an All Pro that provides exceptional value as a receiver as well and Gibbs has a good shot at being an elite weapon. Given that the rest of this draft class is flaming dog ****, I wouldn't be upset with a RB or TE in this draft.
