Over the last three regular seasons hes averaged 13 ppg on 46/38/85 shooting splits. Hes not any more streaky than other similar scorers and if anything he is actually pretty consistent. Virtually every player in the league not named Nikola Jokic has plenty of inefficient shooting games.
For quite some time now its been the people insisting hes super streaky or inconsistent that have been cherry picking specific games and small sample sizes.
Are we really crying about losing out on a 13ppg guy who isn't great at doing anything else? I'm still not understanding why letting him walk is so controversial to you. He signed for a minimum deal, showing he wasn't very coveted by other teams either.
As to his streakiness:
For the Lakers, he had 29 games of scoring 10 or fewer points and 22 games of 20+, only 9 instances of 20+ points in successive games.
This year, he only had 12 games of scoring 20+ and 27 of 10 or fewer, with only one instance of 20+ in successive games.
121 players scored at least 13ppg this season including guys like Kris Dunn, Jusuf Nurkic, and Markelle Fultz.
Monk getting such staunch support despite (generously) being a league average player is truly baffling.

Re: Around the NBA 12
Not crying about anything. Kings are my second favorite team and watching them this season, especially in the playoffs so far, has been some of the most fun Ive ever had watching NBA basketball.
I'm not going to nitpick over exactly what we label Monk's level of play as, whether hes average or above average or whatever, but hes clearly a useful player that they should have made some effort to keep. I obviously disagree to some extent with certain people about how good Monk is, but it is what it is and we're all just stating our opinions. Ive probably watched like around 120+ of his games over the last three seasons, so I'm comfortable with my take (never said he was amazing or anything).
I just don't get how people constantly will hand wave away this team throwing away talent. Monk would have been somewhere in the range of 3rd to 5th best player on the current team (LaMelo/Hayward obviously better, Rozier/PJ questionable, Mark likely better long term).
The Hornets are one of the worst and least talented teams in the league right now (somewhat pending the Bridges situation). I personally think this team could use Alperen Sengun, or Malik Monk, or Tari Eason, or Jalen McDaniels, or Mattisse Thybulle (thats a decent lineup by itself)... Every time a decent player slips through their fingers there is always someone being like "psshhh, we don't need em'" or acting like it doesn't matter and then the team continues to suck year after year. Like ok, not sure how this team doesn't actually need useful players.
I don't even like re-litigating all this old Monk stuff, but if people are still coming with the "hes a drugs addict" stuff then I can't help but argue about it to the point where I feel like Im being obnoxious and want to ban myself from posting lol.

Re: Around the NBA 12
Assuming we keep Monk on a 4 year deal at the time instead of letting him walk. Having him, Terry and a rookie Bouk probably would of been overkill on paper. Just looks bad now because Bouknight wasn't ready to make an impact. We also added Kelly that same year and his size at least meshed with those guys better.
Overall I am happy for Monk. He is probably paid roughly what he is deserved and, in a role, where he can be a flamethrower some nights and invisible others. He is still probably the Kings 5th best player, so it's not like we let a building block walk out the door.

Paywall so we can't read it. Could you please share JDR?
I would call us more downtrodden and pessimistic, rather than bad fans.
Also it doesn't help that NBA players tend to treat this city like dirt.

15% of players voted that we have the worst fans.

The word “worst” in this question is subjective, too. We own that.
In our conversations with players, they tended to interpret the question as how quiet or empty an arena is.
Spectrum Center in Charlotte “won” this dubious honor in large part because it was filled only to 90 percent of its capacity this season, one of the lowest figures in the league. And to be fair to Hornets fans, they didn’t have much to cheer about as the team battled injuries to star point guard LaMelo Ball and finished with a 27-55 record.

If we had new ownership right now I bet they'd be rolling out the red carpet for Nick Nurse.

Re: Around the NBA 12
I thought a lot of folks also thought highly of TOR's front office. What exactly is the deal with shoving out Nurse like this? Is the idea that he just wanted out?
Seems like a strange situation.
ETA: Found this:
Would be something if they completely cleaned house and Ujiri left too

Re: Around the NBA 12
Masai won't take the Wizards job, that's a job of last resort (kinda like ours as long as MJ is here). If he wants to move on a lot of better organizations will fire their GM on the spot to get him.
Man, reading Raptor fan comments are something else. I think they might be even more entitled than Lakers fans, which is freaking crazy. The Hornets might not have many fans because of how terrible we've been, but I'll take our fans over Raptors fans any day of the week.

Just seen Nick Nurse got fired by the Raptors, I'd have him at Charlotte any day. I met him when he was coach in England with the Birmingham Bullets and he was very approachable and always had time for the fans. He won the BBL play offs in 1996 with the Bullets also in 2000 with Manchester Giants franchise. We've all seen what he's done with Toronto and there 1st NBA championship he's a really good tactician but even better players coach I'd love him at the Hornets

Nurse is a no brainer, but MJ won't pay three coaches and he certainly won't open the checkbook for an assistant coaching staff that Nurse requires, but Cuban will

Doncic with Nurse would be really good for them.

Desmond Bane is damn good.
