What a win. LA has snatched home court in the series.

The Clippers are now 12-10 since acquiring Russ.
Westbrook's shooting was horrible, if he shot well, they wouldn't have been in a tight game at the end.

If Russ didn't play today, Clippers win comfortably, as opposed to it being a close game.

Yeah, he played great defense, but he also shot an atrocious 3/19. I am not of the belief that his defense made him a net positive.

I wouldn't be so sure. There are just some possessions when nobody else wanted or could shoot. A lot of his shots were late in the shot clock when odds were anybody else would definitely be more efficient than a TS of .2, but on average likely in the .400 range. Perhaps he is costing them like ~10 points off his bad shooting.

He got 5 offensive rebounds to add 5 possessions. When can conservatively say that's worth at least 5 points.

He also had some assists that lead directly to layups.

Yes his presence hurts the spacing but he mitigated that with his offensive rebounding. And it relatively has less impact when Kawhi is on the court, someone who can survive with less space.

But also his penetration has some gravity that opens guys up for easy shots, hockey assists and offensive rebounds.

11 deflections... 3 blocks, 2 steals.

I think there is a strong case to be made that he actually was a net positive this game.

I've never been much of a fan but I he was definitely effective today vs the Suns. He only took a few ill advised shots, and the rest of his game was huge, his defence on Booker and Durant was impressive.

In fact I'm strangely enjoying watching him play well for the Clips after happily seeing things fall apart in Houston and then with the Lakers. He was always a terrible fit with them Lakers with their lack of outside shooting. Loving the redemption story

12-14

Had some really strong games but ended 3-18 with 5 turnovers.

I wouldn't say saved the season. They immediately went on a 5 game losing streak upon his arrival and fell as low as 7th. They eventually got momentum and finished 5th but still are a first round exit.

If Russ had stayed, we wouldn't have made the playoffs, let alone be on the brink of getting to the second round.

it worked out well for both the Clips and the Lakers.

In a way, Russ reputation was salvaged a bit. at least he was not the disaster that everyone was expecting once he joined the clippers.

does this mean that he will get paid top dollar in free agency?

For the Clippers it worked well?. Man that guy did Kawhi work and play 40 minutes at least since his trade more than any moment during their season. More when George went down but still those two had to play a ton for the holes that this guy was doing on both ends and how he trowed games plus the liability he is on both ends and still having a huge usage playing. Same with Lebron and Davis in the 1st half of the season.

i was just being nice.

i hated the fact that the lakers traded for Russ 2 years ago. Happy that he's no longer on the team and guess what? Lakers are back in contention.

but having said that, the clips found some use for him. especially after both Kawhi & PG went down. giving the Suns a run for their money.

in that sense, he was able to gain some respectability back for himself.

The move helped Russ. He was able to showcase some of his skills, his heart and will to win in those games with Clipps. That said, he still continued his trend of being extremely inconsistent.
So many people who attain the heights of power in this culture—celebrities, for instance—have to make a show of false humility and modesty, as if they got as far as they did by accident and not by ego or ambition.
