This team definitely has a massive problem closing out games that stems from trying to run out the clock way too early. This leaves the door open for our opponents to close and win. You'd think it's fixable but it's been going on for a long time now. I'm upset and frustrated because it should be correctable but we haven't been able to.

Ultimately Tatum has to be better. His offensive efficiency is not good in this post season and was inconsistent last post season. If he is taking 20 shots per game he needs to make more of them or he needs to facilitate at a higher level. He is the best player on the team and a 1st Team All NBA player, this should be the expectation on him. Volume scoring is going to make it much harder for the team.

There's so much to point to on this one it's hard to be mad at one thing.

It's been pointed out that people believe Tatum is in the top tier of players but I'm thinking he's probably in the same tier as Donovan Mitchell. If that is the case I'm probably just expecting too much from him.

JT shot 1-10 for 3 and scored 19 points on 21 shots. I'd say he's a big reason why Boston lost.
I truly believe that Smart playing and crucial minutes is coming down from the front office and I'm not even joking.
I'm not ready to absolve Joe either and I agree with you when you say he's inept. Between Joe and JT it was going to be an extremely uphill battle clearly.
I wonder if Smart complained internally after the other game when Joe pulled him on some late possessions. Him giving up 8 points to Atlanta in the final few minutes proves he shouldn't be on the floor in crunch time. Not with the personnel we currently have. Previous years, yes, this year, no. And since his defense is nowhere near the level it was last season, it's nit a bad decision to not have him on the floor for defensive possessions, that may lead to us being on offense without getting a timeout in to swap him out. Brogdon plays defense well enough to have him out there, and White's defense has been better than Smart at most times this season.
If we want to win a championship, you can't rest on the past or what should be Smart's minutes that he's earned in his Celtic career. You simply have to play the best players on the floor.
Yeah and that's exactly what it is. I'm not saying bench Smart in all critical minutes in the fourth but look at the game and figure out if Briogden would be better or Smart. Maybe some games it's better to have Smart maybe some games is better to have Brogdon. Maybe last night's game Brogdon would have been a better option.
I put a lot of blame on Joe for last night but at the same time come on man Tatum has to do better than 10% from 3. I mean how the hell can you expect to win a game when your star player is shooting that poorly?
Is that all that he wants to do on offense? Chuck 3’s? I mean KD, Booker, Mitchell mixes it up with mid range shots. Tatum can be good at that if he wants to. Post up if your 3 ain’t falling. So sick of all the dribbling, them side step 3 from Tatum. Too predictable.

He's taking two more shots per game than last year's playoffs and they are both threes.

I always hated the way Harden plays but if we're being honest Tatum's game has a little bit of similarity as to Harden plays were both guys will just dribble the air out of the ball and jack up a three.

Did any reporter even ask Joe why Brogdon didn't close the game? A lot of them were asking Joe tough questions, but that should have been at the top of the list. Why our 6th MOTY warms the bench while we lose the game.

Maybe they should have. This board is a huge fan of the +/- stat. Maybe brogden and white should be getting more minutes than him?

Re: Hawks Peck Our Eyes Out! Loss vs ATL 4/25 (BOS leads 3-2)
I’ve been watching this team since the early 80’s and I will say this is the most disgusting playoff loss I have ever seen by the Celtics. I’ve never seen them lose a close out game at home against a 6, 7, 8 seed in the first round. You had Magic’s hook shot and even last years game 5 against the Bucks which were some of the worst losses in Celtics history. But those were championship teams. Not a 7th seed missing arguably their best player in a close out game. The 2008 championship team slept walked the first 2 rounds until the Pistons game into Boston and beat them game 2. After that the Celtics woke up and played some of the best basketball I’d ever seen. Hopefully this does the same thing as this was a bad loss. Embarrassing and inexcusable. I don’t want to see their after the game press conferences or their faces today. I’ll tune in tomorrow night to see if they woke up from this. Just awful.

Efficiency will take a hit if most shots he takes are beyond the arc. He is expected to be 1st team all nba this year as well, but his game hasn’t really evolved like mvp candidates Jokic, Giannis and embiid. Those guys plays consistent on almost every game. Tatum, on the other hand, just fall too much in love with chucking 3’s. He shoots the 3 as many times as Steph does lol.

It’s disappointing to hear how they all preached about the importance of taking care of business when the opportunity presents itself which they failed to do at times last year which extended series only for them to do it in round 1 rigjt off the bat.

Yeah, let's just keep our +31 guy on the sidelines while Marcus hands the Hawks 8 points. Brogdon has to be pissed deep down inside. He wants a title and wants to help us get it. He can't do it while benched. I also saw Tatum give Marcus a look late, like what the hell are you doing. I think it was after his foul that gave them free throws when we were up 1.

Hell. Even if he had Jaylen’s mentality he would be untouchable in this league.
Jaylen was averaging 15 ppg in close out games before last night.
But yeah, Bamba Mentality is apt.
Cut of first and second year cause he was not so ready and you see other numbers.
Haters gonna hate!

I hear you but that doesn't really change anything. Jaylen hasn't been some close out clutch hero. In 2022 playoffs, in the 3 close out games, Jaylen had 1 good, 1 middling (game 7 vs. Bucks), and 1 poor game (22 points on .495 TS% against the Nets) each. In 2020 playoffs, in 2 close out games, Jaylen had 1 good (Toronto series game 7) and 2 bad games (Toronto 6, Philly game 4). And he was arguably the reason why the Celtics lost game 3 and gave Toronto life instead of putting them in a 3-0 hole.
Basically Jaylen has not been less inconsistent in close out games than Tatum.
