G league team- finally?

Post#1 » by Village Idiot » Tue Apr 11, 2023 8:48 am

Portland is one of only 2 teams that doesn't have a developmental team. I've never understood this. I saw it mentioned as a possibility by Cronin. I can't see a disinterested Vulcan signing off on it though unless they think it increases the value of the franchise.

I voted yes because it would allow the team to develop players. Would especially like it to be placed in Salem so I could attend the occasional game and close enough that the team could keep a close eye on them.

I'm assuming they get an "expansion" team in 2-5 years  Man would that be fun if the sonics return! And as bad as I feel for Seattle for losing the sonics I'd hate the sonics just as much all over again, there's nothing like a rivalry to liven up our hometown Fandom in Portland!

The Pavilion at the State Fairgrounds has a 5000 seat capacity which considering the G league only averages 3000 should be sufficient( and since I live maybe 5-10 minutes away depending on traffic would be preferable to an hour long drive to Eugene :)).

Cronin in an exit interview talked about having a Oregon based G-league team tied to the Blazers, and seemed to indicate it was a priority of the Blazers ownership and has been discussed.

Doesn't mean it's happening anytime soon but it's on their radar.

Did you watch the end of this season? The Blazers were their own g-league team.

If we get a G League team, can we send our coach down and see if he develops? At this point, he's barely G League worthy.

There was talk in 1995 before the Moda Center was built, of Vancouver.

I would wonder if Vancouver has an facility for a Blazers G league team should ownership
allows for a Blazers G league team

I was thinking the Rose Garden Arena open in 1992. I would think Vancouver has a facility as the Grizzlies used to play there.

I was thinking off the top of my head of 1995 for I remembered the Drexler teams still played at the
Colliseum.

I still have to see it before I believe it with the G league team.

They just announced their G league team for the 23-24 season and will play at the Chiles Center.

Seems like a waste. Was honestly hoping Seattle with the hopes that it would show enough interest to help bring the SuperSonics back.

First thing I thought of was a team to develop 2nd round picks and undrafted players after all the 1sts (once obligation to Bulls settled) are traded to build around Dame.

Not like we don't already have a major Seattle tie, why not put them in Seattle's house? That would be pretty cool I think, plus it's not like we couldn't retain the ability to move them back to Oregon, at any given point. Chiles Center seems like a poor choice and think Salem, or somewhere outside of Portland would be best.

Regardless, It's cool to have a G-League team. Funny, the comment about last year's team being one. Seems we do have a solid starting 5 already, but I think we must get GB3 back. Priority.

Mays / Butler / GB3 / Walker / Badji........... Could be pretty entertaining stuff.

I don't want to see Butler again. What a waste of 7 feet. I have no clue about Badji cuz he never played; not even once.

Pretty damn quick turnaround here when Cronin mentions this is a priority in the exit interviews then a few weeks later we see it coming to fruition.

I hope he is just as proactive this off-season since we have some potential superstars available in the trade market. Let's get Dame a real shot at a ring damnit, **** I will take sucking for 3-4 more years then usual after the Dame era ends if we have even a 30-40% shot at a championship with Dame.
