as I said in my other thread. Sometimes players lift their games vs star players and star teams. Tonight manny got jerked on a bad 3-0 pitch and then bounces into a rally killing DP, Ortiz also bounced into a DP. The difference in the yankee series and now in this series for the indians has been kenny lofton, he killed us and tonight he hurt boston, he is playing out of his mind, and sometimes that is what a team needs in order to win a championship. Are teams taking it easy on lofton? no, for some reason the guy is playing fantastic ball, and when you look at it, manny and ortiz can't do it alone, but are they choking? I mean the DP's vs westbrook, Ortiz on second getting hit by a ground ball from manny in which he should not have tried to advance on anyway? of coruse not, but if manny and ortiz are even slightly below their level of play then they are going to need a kenny lofton type effort from one of their other guys to win. Look at pedroia, he is struggling, sometimes it is not just your stars playing bad, but the other guys not lifting their games..... Lofton is doing it for the indians, and to my suprise.....
Winning is hard, and sometimes you need weird things to happen, I mean lofton going off? the buggs?, hey maybe it is clevelands year...

Exactly... this must be just Cleveland's year. When is the last time we had somebody totally unexpected just completely light up a playoff series? It's been a while. Yankees don't get those kind of contributions anymore..

but think about it, how many key hits did we get from brosius? or strawberry who was past his prime? I know the jeters and bernie williams carried this team most of the time, but if you are going to win, and you are a team that has a target on your back, you have to be better than normal.... right now, the sox are not getting any out of this workd production from their smaller guys, and it shows now.. Kenny lofton so far is the story of this playoffs if you ask me...
But as kandi said, that is the beauty of this game, and maybe a reason why the yanks probably don't need to overreact so much with big changes....

That's exactly what I meant. We haven't got much lately from those players, but during our dynasty run we got a lot of contributions from guys like strawberry, brosius and sojo.

Agreed 100%. Our lineup scored 968 runs in 2007. Nothing needs to be changed at all. We went cold for 4 games but it happens. This lineup can hit in the playoffs.

Look at this: game 1, we scored 3 runs vs sebathia? now before the series started, if someone would have told you that, you probably would have thought we would have won that game, with wang on the mound. We did miss a lot of opportunities to score runs vs sebathia, but we all know that once you get behind on the road, it is tough, guys press, the other team gains confidence. If wang doesn't implode this series is probably won by us, despite the lackluster hitting. Game 2 was a pitchers duel and we could have had them shut out if not for "bugg gate" LOL...
Game 3, we finally hit and get the win.
Game 4, wang implodes again. Our pitching, mainly wang was the big culprit.. But as we know, if one of our guys, let say matsui or abreu would have had a big series, that could have made up for a lot of shortcommings.. melky and cano did well, but even if they had played outof their minds, things could have been much different... Oh well boston is down 2-1 and we have 2008.. things are looking up..

not only that, we need that potent offense, to try to makeup for those nights when our young cats (phil, kennedy, joba) are going thru those "growing pains"
