What's the deal with a Cavs player saying they were the better team and just didn't want it more? You can try to make the argument that the Knicks are a bad match up for the Cavs but here's the real deal, the Knicks beat them 7 out of 9 games this season including the playoff series 4-1. There was nothing fluky about this disparity.
The Knicks didn't even get a huge contribution from their 'best player' and all star Randle, their secondary scorers were relatively quiet most of the series apart from RJ and Hart. They hardly played their best basketball in the series despite some people suggesting the Knicks gave them their 'best punch', it wasn't pretty for either of the teams.
I know there will be Cavs fans who overreact to this series loss the same way Knicks fans would probably have done so if they lost 4-1 to the Cavs. The team still isn't that far off, though true, they need better wing depth and find a stretch big without much assets to do it but don't let the brutal ending cloud your perception of the team.
Rubio is right in some respect, there is plenty of talent on this team and it may be just a matter of finishing the team building process while allowing the natural growth of the younger players to happen. It ended ugly but find a way in your minds to appreciate the strong season the team had.
Young teams take things in steps, this was just two young teams meeting and one had to win it.
If you'd rather see your team fail so you can be right
...you are a fan of your opinion not the team.
