He could be "a" piece but he's not the missing piece. He and Suggs are like ying and yang

James and Davis clog the middle freeing up Reaves. Isn't that exactly what Reaves would get in Orlando with F-Wagner, Banchero (and even Carter)?

and he's pretty much at his best self with the ball in his hands, who's hands we taking the ball out of? Paolo? Franz? Fultz? i think not.....then what about cole and Suggs? that's a lot of mouths to feed....just not real comfortable with seeing someone make north of 20 million being a 3rd option at best

Re: Austin Reaves
I agree with this after watching a few games. Something about him I don't like. Good passer, decent dribble, talented playmaker, good IQ, terrible physical profile, decent shooting, nothing eye popping on defense. Pass.pepe1991 wrote:I just don't see it with Reaves. I see mediocre all around player that plays with 3 allstars, two of them being top 10 players ( one in conversation for best ever, other is one of best defenders in past 15 years) and gets incredible amount of BS calls in his favor.
I really don't think he is any better player than some Bogdan Bogdanovic or Huerter or Monk or Norman Powell.
I think that he will cost a lot and after he gets not- Lakers officiating and is on no- Lebron -Davis team, you will ask yourself "why are we burning money on average bench player ?"
Yes ,he shoots 40% for 3. But look at splits.
148 out of 216 threes he took were wide open. Additional 56 were open. So he had clean looks on 204/216 threes.
This is Lebron/Davis now Russell effect. Nobody is going out of his way to prevent Austin Reaves from scoring, he is every game guarded by worst defender other team has to offer.

That's why I also wanted a deep dive on him. Is he just another Caruso/THT hype kind of player becasue he is in LA and plays with 2 all-stars or is he capable on his own.

Agree 100%
I didn't get why everyone was on the hype train with him, he's the open man and he's made shots. That doesn't mean he could do it if he was on his own without 2 all time greats

Who said he was anything more than a good role player?
Are we too good to add solid role players already?

I think part of his appeal, he is versatile, He can do a lot of things good and nothing bad.
I just looked at the LAL 4 man lineups, wanted to see what Pepe was referring to, because he made a valid point.
their 6 most used 4 man lineups of the playoffs, they were all over the +/-.
In order of most min listing the +/-
33
23
1
20
20
39
Guess the only one Reeves wasn't part of?
the +/- of "1"
the big 3 + Reeves was the most minutes "33".
The others, one of the big 3 were missing.

Don't hate the idea...but I'd rather aim higher. I just don't know how close he is to his ceiling. I know he's young.

i dont know if he is a Jeremy Lin flash, but what is his ceiling? as a starter he was 15 ppg 3.5 rpg, 4.2 apg. and with a bigger role after the trade deadline, he was 17 ppg 3 rpg 5.5 apg. Those arent bad ceiling numbers, if he truly is at his ceiling.

Re: Austin Reaves
I was thinking of his athleticism, he seems to rely heavily on skill and has poor athleticism.tiderulz wrote:eyriq wrote:I agree with this after watching a few games. I’m at the point now that I’d rather Orlando draft their guards of the future, spend the free agent money on bench vets, and use the rest to retain who works.

Same. I also think this is the most likely plan of the front office.MagicMatic wrote:I’m at the point now that I’d rather Orlando draft their guards of the future, spend the free agent money on bench vets, and use the rest to retain who works.

Not my favorite option, but the likeliest. I'll focus my energy on willing the ping pong balls to force us to bring in our Guard of the NOW.
My favorite (realistic) youngish vets to fill out our roster are Donte Divincenzo and Kyle Anderson. Wouldn't break the bank or the headlines, but would elevate the whole org with their heady versatile 2-way play.
Reaves thread...I'm just not sold on his replicating his story elsewhere. I'd be willing to try, but only for Gary Harris money or, at least, under 15m.
