Schneider should have subbed out Espinal for Keiermaier. Leave Merrifield to play second. Put KK in the 9th spot.
Why? If Seattle ties the game ( and we were not using our closer) we bat with Chappy and Merrifield and Kirk.
Espinal is not a defensive upgrade over Merrifield vs. keeping Merrifield behind Chapman.
In the 9th, Merrifield is a smart enough hitter to move Chappy to third without bunting.
KK being a lefty might have also put up a more competitive at bat vs brash than Espinal did

He's looked terrible all season, he's had no slider to speak of, and the team has been using him in low leverage for weeks because they can see what he is. How is he even getting into a 3 run lead at all, especially if guys like Pop and Mayza are available? That was asking for a loss and a loss is what they got.
Very reminiscent of the Chatwood nonsense with Montoyo a few years back where the team just threw games away.
Im so done with Bass now, Espinal also booted a routine ground but he's been awful and his savant page is a sea of blue. He was incredible last year barring the playoffs and now I wouldn't care if he got DFA'd
Bass is a head scratcher. He was very good last year with both the Marlins, and for the Jays after he was acquired. He has been terrible ever since that Choke Job elimination game against the Mariners last October. I would give him another month in low leverage situations to figure it out. If he cannot, then you just have to cut your losses and DFA him.

“He’s not very tough to pitch to when you execute your pitches,” Schneider said of Raleigh. “He’s hitting .200, but I know he’s done damage against us. … He’s obviously got big damage potential, and he’s got a lot of strikeout potential, too. And when you execute your pitches, you usually get the job done.”

This is a really weird comment to make about a good hitter who has owned this team the past few years. Schneider is gonna regret that one about as much as his bullpen usage today.

Again you're missing the point. Suarez is a swing and miss guy. You're better off having Garcia face him in that situation. Having Crawford bat was a mistake.
I'm not missing any point. Walking a worse hitter and putting the go ahead run on base to face a better hitter who hits HRs is not the optimal choice there.
If Garcia hangs one of those bad sliders to Suarez, we aren't just talking about a single like with Crawford. We're talking about a 3 run HR.
I guess we agree to disagree here.

That's an expected run differential of +0.89 but an actual run differential of +4.

After the hot start to the season guerreros cooled off a bit. Power numbers down too. Hope he picks it back up.

He has a 151 wRC+ and just hit a ball 103 MPH off the bat 400 feet. I think he'll be OK.
Berrios on the other hand...

Man, this Forums is dead AF. No one even interested in making the Boston GT? Ouch.

We literally have more activity than the other 29 teams combined, lol.
Also, there is a series thread. It just wasn't stickied because I wasn't around.

Espinal....rec level softball me knows you take that force at 2 over the low percentage cross body throw. This is the second time I've seen Espinal make this bone head play.

When i look at that replay i see Bo hesitating for a split sec,and Espinal not sure so he didnt pitch it to him.Bo is the one who makes more horrible throws.

Reviewed the schedule - if the Jays are within striking distance until late August, that's a great time to make a run for the division.
From late August - we play these teams in order:
Washington,
Colorado
Oakland
Kansas City
Each team should be in full tank mode.
Then the real September drama should begin:
Texas, Boston - NY,TB and end with NY and TB in Toronto.
