Curry vs Reggie Playoff Scoring

Post#1 » by OhayoKD » Tue May 2, 2023 12:09 am

1992-2002 Playoff Reggie: 25 points per 75 possessions on +8.4 league relative efficiency (higher if doing opponent relative)
2015-23 Playoff Curry: 27.8 points per 75 possessions on +5.8 league relative efficiency

Do we underrate Reggie as a scorer?

From reading through a lot of the real gm top 10o's I've come to think we underrate him period. I'd direct anyone interested to read through those threads they do a better job than I ever could showing his offense resiliency and impact. As a Knicks fan of the 90's I say this a little begrudgingly

Reggie is just underrated full stop. Regular season, playoffs, it doesn't matter.

Reggie’s size and length arguably gives him an advantage in scoring, this has been discussed before.

Yeah, Reggie was a superstar offensively, especially in the playoffs, both in terms of his individual production and decent Pacers offensive output in the playoffs. Oh, and he was also very clutch (both according to the eye-test and quantitative data). Oh, and he played in an era that less utilized his skillset.

But I don't think Reggie is 'underrated' (at least on this board) since these are well-known facts - probably underrated in mainstream discussions though.

6.0 OBPM in the playoffs in span of 12 seasons (90-02)/over 100 games as a 1st option (mostly) gives you crazy value in comparison to players widely considered as bigger offensive stars.

Better than Allen and Klay. The first real off-ball gravity mastermind I saw, he truly discombobulated defenses with his cuts and movement. Him and Rip are still the two skinny guy idols of the game imo.

I also think he was horrendously underused as a ball handler and the era discouraged him from doing so. If you used him as a KD style PnR ball handler more often he would’ve been even better in this era especially as he worked on his pull up 3s and utilized them the way Dame and Steph do.

This was MJ’s real rival in the East. An underrated what-if.
