- He has three 50 point games in a single season, most at his position since Kareem

- Most PPG on 50% shooting since MJ

- Had 59/11/8 with a steal and 7 blocks earlier this season, which is a top 10 regular season game score performance ever

- 47/18/5 with 3 steals and 2 blocks on national television against Denver. 52/11/6 on 20/25 shooting when he dissected Boston. Been ridiculous in the clutch this season, has hit like 6 game winners or go ahead shots late in 4th quarters - including multiple game saving blocks. Leaps improved as a playmaker and at reading double teams.

And while most of his plaudits are given on the offensive end, he's also anchoring a top 10 defense while being 90th+ percentile in most rim deterrent metrics. To me he is the most important and talented defender of any of the candidates as he is the anchor and pillar of the 76ers defense.

From missing the first two seasons of his career due to a broken navicular bone, to his younger brother dying in an accident that made him so depressed he almost quit professional basketball, to winning his second straight scoring title and league MVP.

He is one of the greatest to ever step onto the hardwood, and the scary part is that I don't think he's peaked yet.

Get your ass back here, we need you for the playoff run.

Just giving Joel some love. Tobias... I'm still watching this guy under an electron microscope, but the 'agenda' is postponed until after we win this championship. His 3 point attempt volume is still really concerning, and I don't think he'll ever be a plus defender - but he's moving his feet. If he can continue to take and make those looks like the 3 on the swing from Harden to tie it at 107 in game 1 then it's whatever.

Also for comradery and leadership stuff, he's a good guy.

Please be back we need you here. We wont say anything good about Tobi. I’ll be in charge of that.

You're one of the least trustworthy in that regard lol

Seeing defensive ratings from much ballyhooed 'analytics' giving Jokic massive edges just shows how flawed the ability to actually use analytics to determine individual defensive ability.

You can not watch these two players and think Jokic is a DPOY and Embiid isn't even half as good as he is.

I swear they are the most delusional fans in all of sports.

I've said for many, many years that the two most arrogant, ignorant, and delusional fan bases in all of sports are those of the NY Giants and the Celtics. This comes from many years spent living in north Jersey enduring both breeds.

Thanks for posting this. For all of us who were 100% behind The Process, this is finally real validation of Hinkie's vision, and the ultimate validation will be getting the NBA championship trophy from that scumbag Silver, who in one fell swoop almost destroyed a franchise with the help of his henchmen, the Colangelos.

So congratulations to St. Samuel for bringing us one of the top 10 athletes to ever play in this city.

Yeah man, only psst that he couldn't see it through. That **** alien inbred sicking the Colangelos on us, and then Elton Brands buffoonery rid us of the incredible war chest Hinkie had left us. Who knows this year, things feel different, so we might still do it, but we lost a lot of valuable ammo in tackling this. If all we get out of it is an MVP it won't be a waste for that, but in many other ways it absolutely will be.

But this is a stretch. I don't like Embiid because he flops, he whines, he's a hypocrite, he throws elbows without regard, he falls without regard and in general is just an unlikeable person. He's an incredible talent and one of the best centers the NBA has ever seen.

Lmao, the number of orbital bone fractures Embiid has inflicted to other players with his elbow: 0

The number that Siakam has given with his elbow: 1

In all my years of watching Embiid, I can't really remember any injuries he's inflicted on other players, particularly with his elbows. Then again, Raptor fans are the biggest, most pathetic babies in all of professional sports and I'd be embarrassed to have to speak with them on a day to day basis.

I took my first peek at the GB just to see what you guys were talking about, and what I found on steroids is exactly the reason I stopped listening to talk radio and watching garbage like ESPN 20 years ago. I had enough of that kind of crap living in north Jersey to last several lifetimes. I pity people that have to live and work around cretins like this.

The problem with the GB is definitely because of Raptors fans. They are the most toxic fans in sports with how they’ve openly cheered for injuries to opposing players for the past 5+ years.

This 1000%. During the series with the Sixers last year they were posting atrocious **** that is supposed to be against the 'board policy', but you had Raptor fan mods joining in and even other mods just ignoring it for page after page.

It also seems to attract the worst posters from every team. But yeah, Raptor fans are a huge problem.

Been waiting since Iverson's MVP for the next Sixer to get it. Had no doubt that it would be Embiid sooner or later.

Congrats big fella!

The rational me has never cared about Embiid winning MVP and always thought it was sidetracking him from the "real" goal but the human in me since the announcement has been a little emotional, happy for, and proud of Joel. Personal achievement, recognition, and accolades matter to everyone no matter what you do.

I understand why this was critical to Joel.

As weird as this may sound i think part of why the defensive metrics like him is actually his offensive ability.

His level of creation makes the entire offense more efficient, which in turn creates less rebounds for opponents which also means fewer options for things like transition offense for the opponent.

Stuff like this is why defense is so difficult to measure on statistics, defense is impacted by how the entire team perform on the floor so capturing individual impact is also affected by lineups, the type of defense being played and even offense.

Joel Hans Embiid will always be my favorite athlete ever, and now he's a stone cold lock for the Hall of Fame?!? I am so happy for him and I'm so proud of him at the same time.

What Joel Embiid accomplished in becoming the first player in the history of professional basketball to miss their first two seasons due to injury and then somehow still come all the way back to become one of the most dominant players of his generation and one of the greatest centers that ever lived will never, ever be replicated again in any of the four major sports. In that sense, Joel Embiid has had arguably the greatest comeback of any athlete ever. If he had been healthy this whole time, his counting stats would have been unreal. Alas, we will be looking at the advanced stats when we discuss his career after it is all said and done.

I can't help but think this is *the* year. Tonight, we will know right away if Embiid is "right" based on his mood and body language. If he comes strong out of the gates and pulls out an airplane spin, we're going to the finals.
"I don’t wanna be Jordan, I don’t wanna be Magic, I don’t wanna be Bird or Isiah. I don’t wanna be any of those guys. When my career’s over, I''m gonna look in the mirror and say I did it my way.”- Allen Iverson
