Part of the reason I lean against the smart young assistant coach route and more towards a strong, established coach is that it is beyond time that we have a voice in there to push back on Giannis. We need someone who isn’t just gonna get bullied and let Giannis go rogue. Like Pop not being afraid to tell Tim Duncan when he was playing like a pussy. Except we need someone not afraid to tell Giannis when he’s playing like a dumbass.

It’s why I think Lue is the best candidate. Strong voice in the locker room, doesn’t take **** from anyone, connects with players (as a former player), while being really sharp X’s and O’s wise including mid game. He has the tactical knowledge to use Giannis properly and the stature/voice to make it happen.

Nurse also fits the bill in that regard but Lue is a bit better IMO.

There seems to be a large contingent of Raps fans that think this is the perfect landing spot for Nurse.

It’s a really good fit. This is a team that has talent but really suspect BBIQ and decision making and needs a strong minded, micro manager of a coach who is sharp and quick in mid-game adjustments and can manage the flow of a game. If the players are let loose we get abominations like this Miami series. We need someone who’s a little psycho and isn’t afraid to micro manage everything and try wild **** when needed.

I would cry from laughing so hard if the Bucks actually hired Greg Gard
Coach Drew: "Milwaukee has always been a team that I have been intrigued by. When we played them, they were a tough team for us to play. Although we did beat them all four times"

I agree with this. Lue is my top choice by a slim margin, should he become available. I think there is a non-zero chance that his feelings about returning next season with LAC has changed a bit with this job opening.

One big plus for Nurse is that he has an ocean of knowledge on the East, how to beat each team specifically, etc. Bud would do the same thing against them all, to a certain extent. 12 of 16 are against the East, so it means something to me, although teams tend to change dramatically every year as well.

JayMKE wrote:If we hire a Bud guy I'll wonder why the hell we fired him in the first place, its gotta be outside the org and that coaching tree. This is a veteran team that needs a coach who can execute and adjust when needed, not some outside the box first time HC to grow with a young team but rather a pure mercenary brought in to win a championship with this core. What's Larry Brown up to? Too bad he isn't younger.

100% agree with this. Firing Bud and hiring a Bud protégé would be a weird move.

Equally weird to just assume everyone from the Pop/Bud coaching tree is a monolith IMO.

Praying they don't go after D'Antoni.

I am actually surprised people want Lue. I just thought of him as a guy that does why LeBron wants him to but open to the idea he is actually a good coach.

I feel like Atkinson was considered a savant early in his time w Brooklyn and I like the interview that was posted talking about how much he learned from Kerr. I could see that being a good match.

I’d like to know why Nurse was let go. Seems like he had some pretty cutting edge ideas w a decent but not great roster.

I think that was the majority sentiment when he was with the Cavs but he’s proven with the Clippers that he’s legitimately a terrific coach on his own. It’s pretty similar to Spo, where Spo proved himself post LeBron. Lue is creative, quick to adjust, and connects with players. They’ve just been destroyed by injuries but coaching wise he’s really good. If Kawhi doesn’t go down in 2021 they very well may have beaten us honestly.

I'm fine with someone from the coaching tree. I have huge reservations about someone on staff last year. If you arent a strong enough leader to improve our strategy last year either through discussions with Bud or the players, I'm not sure they are strong enough to have an impact as the lead guy. Could be wrong. Maybe bud was such a an egomaniac that no one else got a say.

I like some stuff Lue does, some stuff I don’t. I think I would prefer nurse over him. Plus I think he picks living in LA over Milwaukee anyway. Think the clippers and bucks have a similar window coming up.

Truth is we aren't a smart basketball team when thing get tough. We don't have a smart enough player like Cp3 or Draymond and Bud cracked. You need one or other other unless you're blessed like GSW. Nurse is the guy, can't get someone unproven because we don't have time...need to win now. Nurse is the guy.

Giannis is at the point in his career where he says "f*ck loyalties, I just wanna win". Unfortunately that could also mean somewhere else for him if things don't go well here.

Oof, given you had some insight into Giannis in the past this is concerning but understandable. Might also help explain why they decided not to run it back with Bud again. No time to play it safe.
