He had some good minutes in the playoffs last year.

So he could be in the doghouse again by training camp.

I think they have high expectations of their young players in the offseason to do a lot of work. So ideally, you'd see them at least at the levels they were at during this season to start training came if not better. Maybe they worked more on shooting and ball handling.

Maybe they trained more to add some muscle, something Moody could use.

Kuminga had 13/4/2 in 24 mpg, on 57/44/67 splits after the All-Star break (link), but it was Moody, who played 10 mpg in 19 games in the same time period (I won't even post his stats here...) who improved.

Typical Kerr.

THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS 5v5 PRACTICE IN THE REGULAR SEASON

they watch film, run drills, maybe (MAYBE) get some 3v3s going but if you think they are running full 5v5 scrimmages during the regular season and from there Kerr saw that Moody "improved" then

and it's not about me knowing more than Kerr (here we go again with the NPC appeal to authority argument) it's about coachspeak being coachspeak for a reason. Kerr likely just says whatever to justify some of the decisions he's made over the course of the RS. it's meaningless.

the only way a player can actually get better is by playing, and the only way to know that a player actually got better is by watching him play better in live games...not drills, not film, not 'attitude'.

cool story bro, if I wanted Kerr's take on things I'd just listen to Kerr, not wco81.

After hardly playing for much of the regular season, Moody has been a real asset these playoffs. Just kept his head down, was ready for when his number was called, and took advantage of the opportunities he got. That's great to see - Kuminga should take note!

Moody played significant minutes last year for a champion. I just don't know why Curry doesn't put the same level trust in the regular season

This is an actually false. Most of the time when a guy is coming back from injury or time off Kerr will have the team do a 5 on 5 before he allows the guy to play in a live game. It literally just happened when Wiggins came back.

Might be misleading to say Kerr will "have the team do a 5 on 5". You are correct that the organization will arrange a 5 on 5 scrimmage. On the other hand, I would question how many players involved in that 5 on 5 are on the 15 man roster, much less guys in the regular top 8 rotation. I remember exactly one midseason scrimmage that involved the core vets. It happened last season, and was actually the subject of discussion. A more typical scrimmage in season would involve sending the player to Santa Cruz for a scrimmage. They did that with Steph earlier this season, and also had a scrimmage for him and Andre with the two ways and scrubs.

So I'm pretty confident the team has the young guys scrimmaging against each other. Probably need extra bodies most of the time. Not sure whether they bring in SC guys after the season there ended, or a few local players on a spot basis.

My recollection of one recent Kerr interview about Moses included Kerr saying Moody had looked good in scrimmages with the "young guys", whoever that may include.
This movie is like the Rocky Horror Picture Show where everyone knows all the lines.

lol those 5v5 'scrimmages' are literally just 10 rando g l dudes running around doing nothing - people just lie and talk nonsense about things they don't understand.

the active roster is NEVER running 5v5s during the regular season...you have to pull ears to get these guys to play a full season of regular season basketball, let alone 5v5 scrimmages in between games and all the travel lmao.

Kinda missing the forest for the trees. Both of your examples were out of the norm during regular season.

One was in Portland immediately after the all-star break. The other was when they had extra time off because a game in Denver was Covid cancelled.

So if your point is that there are rare circumstances where a full roster scrimmage takes place then yes, it happens.

On the other hand, those particular circumstances aren’t really relevant to the discussion of scrimmages Kerr mentioned in relation to Moody.

Except that Clyde literally said the team "NEVER" scrimmages in the regular season, which is obviously a crock of ****.

They do run 5v5 scrimmages during the regular season, but they dont do it regularly. Definitely not *never*, but not nearly as much as one would think.

Id guess its something like 2-3 times a season. Not “never” in the literal sense, but pretty rarely in the grand scheme of things.

Also they will use coaches and randos like Klay’s brother to fill in the team. I’d guess that they never run 5v5 with only the active roster during the regular season but dont know for sure.

All above said, Moody sucked in the beginning of the season and is doing well now. Id say he improved at some point.

He's definitely the surprise of the Lakers series so far, but it's only two games. If, and this is a big if, he continues to play this well away from home, I would take all of DDV's minutes and some of JP's and give them all to Moody. Those guys don't deserve it with the way they've played so far this PS.

Granted, there's a lot of ifs & buts.

You have to learn to not take Clyde literally (or ignor him). He exaggerates and uses absolutes in many of his arguments, which detracts from the fact that he does have some actual points in what he says.
