Bronny James will take his talents to USC next season

Post#1 » by GSWFan1994 » Sun May 7, 2023 12:18 am

Via ESPN

Bronny James, No. 19 recruit in 2023, commits to USC

Four-star guard Bronny James, son of NBA superstar LeBron James, announced his commitment to USC on Saturday.

Bronny James made the announcement on Instagram.

A 6-foot-3 guard from Cleveland who attended Sierra Canyon School (California), James is considered one of the top five point guards in the country. He was ranked as the No. 19 prospect in the ESPN 100 for the Class of 2023 and earned McDonald's All American honors this season.

LeBron James also shared the announcement on Instagram, writing "So damn proud of you kid!"

Bronny James averaged 11.5 points, 4.7 rebounds and 3.7 assists for the Strive For Greatness program on the Nike EYBL circuit last spring and summer, then followed that up with stellar performances in high-profile games during the high school season. James had 13 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists and 5 steals in the Hoophall Classic against Christopher Columbus (Florida), shooting 3-for-8 from 3-point range.

(read more on the link above)

In ESPN's early 2024 NBA mock draft, James is projected as the No. 10 pick -- with ESPN's Jonathan Givony citing his ability as "arguably the best perimeter defender in his high school class" as his biggest asset.

This caught my eye (from the same article):

James will now suit up for Andy Enfield and the Trojans, joining a preseason top-25 team and one of the best backcourts in the country. USC is expected to bring back all-conference guard Boogie Ellis, the team's leading scorer at 17.7 points per game, while it also has elite point guard Isaiah Collier, the No. 1-ranked high school senior in the country.

I wonder if Bronny will tank his stock so that LA will draft him

Why would he purposely do that? He's already got a ton of negativity because the perception that his dad is basically carrying his draft stock value  . Also is a team really going to draft him in the lottery?

I think he's got NBA talent. He's a 6'2" athletic combo guard with pretty good defensive attributes. His comp can be like Gary Payton Jr?!? Perhaps a better shooting GPJ...

Someone will draft him because they know they're getting LeBron too.

I just wonder if Bronny is even gonna be 1 and done, he's already a millionaire.

This will be the true proving ground for him, while he might get drafted sometime in the 1st round to try to draw LBJ to a team if he looks good at USC he might actually be a legit lottery pick.

One thing I like about bronny is he's a unselfish player. His teammates like playing with him. It's very easy for a kid who grew up privileged with a high profile father to act haughty and entitled but he acts like just one of the guys on the team. Credit to his dad for keeping him level headed. Hope he does well at usc.

No, his father is a winner, he's not going inherit a loser personality. If he's made it this far, it's because he also loves the game.

Cool his family and dad will be at some of his home games when he can.

That takes alot of courage to stay in the same city your dad is a professional athlete and the son looking to make a name in the same city for himself on a national level where making the NBA is nearly everyone's entire goal.

USC seems to be a defensive-minded program lately, pumping out Okongwu, McLaughlin, Mellon, and Mobley.

Excellent choice by Bronny. Great defensive players out of college can become elite offensive players if they’re mediocre and/ or raw (Kawhi, Himmy, PG13, Bridges, etc). much less possible the other way around.

early

some bottom feeder will want to invite the show. good for the in attendance and other peripherals, and they'll sukk too much to worry about the post-lebron after effect

no contender will want the james boys to screw up chemistry so i think 23-30 is ridiculous. it'll be lottery or early second round

Staying in college doesn't mean he doesn't love the game...

Yeah Steph, Klay and Draymond all stayed in college for at least 3 years. Don't think they have a loser mentality.

I used to think so too, but unless he's a legit lottery-level talent, I doubt it. A team isn't going to draft LeBron's son as leverage to sign LeBron.

If your theory is true, there are likely to be at least 10-12 traded 1sts by the time the draft rolls around (there are already 7). Lots of weak teams will be in the mid and late 1st.
