go get the ball for all the offensive minded players in Portland.
I have no doubt Simons can play but he's getting blamed for being a bad fit next to Dame.
People around here have been pretty harsh on Chauncey I think, considering we were tanking for half of two seasons, but I've givin' him a pass up to this point. That all changes next season, and I will be right there with the others judging his job performance.
What I'm getting at is, It's going to be Chauney's #1 job figuring out how to best split Dame and Simons on the court. I figure it to be about 20 mpg that they will share the court (5 per quarter). We clearly tried it this year, but it didn't look great, but I think we had bigger roster issues to contend with as well, so I don't feel like we really got a true opportunity to see if it can work. Furthermore, threading that needle and figuring out the correct rotation would give us the best chances at winning it all. Simons should IMO be declared beaten out of that starting SG job by Sharpe. Problem is then mostly solved. A healthy and improved BIGS rotation would be the rest of the problem.
So to sum up, I think winning WITH Dame is still a possibility, but it depends on Dame's ability (or inability) to change his game on several levels, in order to have team success. Possible still, but it may be too late now. Dame did try hard early last season and the changes showed, but it didn''t last and I feel like he ended his season, just trying to get his. Not sure Dame will want to contunue trying to adapt to a Chauncey style, and will likely ask out. I think he may be testing waters during this offseason, as he's been spotted courtside at at least two diffierent playoff teams' games. Not Normal.
