I personally think both Magic and Bird are slightly overrated.

Kobe cant even get into the conversation to replace Hakeem or Duncan?

How exactly are Duncan and Hakeem clear cut favorites over Kobe? Whats the criteria?

You do realize that Hakeem in some regular seasons and even more post seasons was as good or better than Kobe offensively then was an all time level big man defender on top of that right? I mean Kobe is pretty safely seen as top 15 all time which I think his fans should be content with. Hakeem and Duncan both just were easier to build around and had higher peaks also. You can't entirely leave out Kobe's hard to get along personality out of this either. Phil literally tried to have him traded just as he was entering his prime and already knew the triangle forwards and backwards.

sorry but i still dont see a criteria here, and for what its worth im not a kobe fan, specifically. As a laker fan hes never been my favorite player. but this isnt about being a kobe fan or a duncan fan or a hakeem fan. this is about body of work. All 3 of them are legends of the game. All 3 won titles, mvps, fmvps, 1st team all nba honors... but again i dont see where Hakeem or Duncan separate themselves from Kobe. If anything, I would argue that Kobe and Duncan separated themselves from Hakeem, when comparing titles.

I'm not saying that anyone has to agree with what I said. If you think Kobe has a solid case for top 10 that's fine but at the same time there are those who don't and the reasoning is probably pretty similar to what I wrote above as to why. If you are going by body of work and looking at the player as a whole I also think you need to include intangibles that I mentioned above also.

thats why i asked in my original post why its so CLEAR CUT that Kobe cant even get into the conversation with those guys. My first post was literally "we cant even have the debate" and the response was "no". lol. so i asked why we cant even have the debate, and now its gotten to the point where its about "intangibles" that "some people" think keep him out. again, doesnt seem particularly clear cut to me. seems entirely subjective... and thats why i asked in the first place. the entire thread is "theres no argument for anyone else to crack the top 10". I certainly dont see how thats remotely true, and i dont think its just limited to Kobe. There are a number of guys who you could argue deserve to be in the conversation.

Honestly its my own fault for even getting involved in this conversation. these "list" debates are always a nightmare. Its a completely subjective, completely made up list that has no agreed upon criteria with which to even judge and debate. lol. honestly i wish people would think less about "top this" and "goat" and all that, and just appreciate the greats.

I think Kobe has a case even though I don't necessarily agree but I was just giving a reasoning for why some don't think he would. Its not that serious to me. Obviously what criteria someone uses is a big part of it as well. I don't think it exactly comes down to intangibles either but again I think its part of the equation. All of this stuff is only as serious as we want it to be because its just sports.

Yes. Two rings with little Univ of San Fran when Jim Crow was still rampant. Plus the Olympics. Celtics wasn’t winning titles until he got there and stopped after he retired. He surely would have won with the Sixers and Lakers teams Wilt played on. I don’t expect folks not living back then, to know the contemporaneous greats of the game, but there were plenty, and the smaller number of teams meant that they were much more concentrated.

I think Michael would have had a chance at matching the rings with better early coaching and without the loss of his dad. But Phil was one of the best.

I only read the first page so far but to me, Kobe needs to be on that list somewhere.

I'd argue Bird is the easiest to get out of the top 10.

But some dumb people will say Duncan, because they don't understand basketball..

How so? Won 3 MVPS in a row, 3 championships best player in the league for multiple years, played in the harder conference, instantly made them a contender

80’s with the Sixers, Lakers, themselves and the Pistons. I have them actually third in team’s talent ceiling on one season basis. One team still had a multiple time MVP multiple time Finals MVP along with Kareem of course.

For relevancy sake it’s a harder out then in the 90’s was.

Nothing easy getting to top ten all time. He definitely has a top ten resume though.
