Well I love to run dark horses in a race so the idea of say double two-way combo guards Dumars/Wade tempts me greatly but

for one year some combination of Durant/Tmac/DRose/Harden/Penny etc go nuts

for any real length of time together I think either Magic or Lebron or both are somewhat mandatory unless you want to really be a hipster with say Mark Price/Steve Nash or similar

Same pairings:

Lebron/Magic - West, Kobe, Leonard, Miller all great picks.

Lebron is very intriguing, as the dominant behemoth finisher inside or the primary ballhandler/decision maker or both.

Lebron + Stockton would be amazing too with added playmaking value.

But Lebron + Magic?!!!! + shooters. The transition stuff would be lethal.

I don’t worry about shooting/spacing when it’s about the overall offensive output.

1. I disagree with the premise - for me Magic/Jordan is the best possible backcourt you could ever make.

2. I don't agree with including LeBron in a backcourt - I know he has played there, and certainly many of the best combinations would include him, but he is primarily a forward and I feel it somewhat goes against the spirit of the question to use him here. Same for Kawhi - he's one of my favorite players of his generation but he's a forward.

3. To answer the thread's question, I'd go with Magic/Kobe. Closest you can get to Magic/Jordan without it being Magic/Jordan.

My first instinct was Magic and West, both top 20 all time, West seems like a good fit both in style of game and mentally to share star guard duty. Kobe and Lillard is an interesting option as backup Jordan and Curry.

Lebron and Kawhi don't count for me.
