I just want to thank Note30 and youngunsmn for being the voice of reason in here lol can no longer tolerate those who cant even understand they think like cultists. they tend to speak well but they s the most to say nothing. they also have narc tendencies by making those who point out their flawed thinking as the ones with the problem. Even throwing them a bone like "I see your point" "yes but how about" "alright, but what if" "okay....what if I told you" "you're absolutely correct, but let me add this...please" even with those bones before speaking to them with facts and logic they will still refuse to open up their minds to other views.
Again, thank you to those who want the team to succeed and be fun to watch because we all deserve it and can have an open discussion abut the team because we all want what's best.

Thank you, though I feel like youngunsmn definitely articulates things more easily.

So this "open discussion"... does it include anyone that doesn't think the Gobert trade was a catastrophic and irreparable mistake? Or is anyone that thinks like that a "cultist" with "narc tendencies"?

Should have been given the role to begin with.

And Connelly did a radio interview this week and went through a whole lot of verbal gymnastics to avoid committing to the team for this year, there is an article in the Strib (Taylor owned paper) about it.
It's his hometown team, has to be dream job, it makes a certain amount of sense.
It's a legit talker for sure.
I'm not excited for someone to come in and blow the roster up yet again, but I don't know if Connelly is the right guy to make things work going forward given how invested he has to be in making Gobert work here.

It was. There are no ifs ands or buts about it. There is no discussion.
You can argue about Goberts current contributions or that he's a decent player but no player, coach, or GM would see that trade as anything but a terrible overpay.
That much is true, because outside of being exposed as a mediocre limited role player, he wouldn't command anywhere near the trade value we gave up. If it weren't true we'd be able to move him for a good return.
Don't worry though, he's a top 10 player who exceeds all metrics tho so....

This makes me wonder .. who is the best then? Not an easy question!
I would rank the GM job based on Draft (getting value for pick range), Free Agency/Contract Negotiations, Trades, and Team Direction (non-player hires, team goals)
Some of these are old articles, but it’s a place to start.

I wonder if our FO now have idea that we can survive without Towns, after he missed 52 games and we still got 8 seed. It is not 100% accurate, but I see they can think about it.

We replaced him with Gobert and the team got worst.

No you replaced 74 games of KAT, Vando, Beverley, and Beasley with 29 games of KAT, Gobert and Slowmo and only lost 4 more games.

Don't confuse the people with logic like that. The roster was exactly the same, just minus KAT and plus Gobert.

The only two GMs that were able to put together a playoff caliber roster were McHale and Rosas, so the best GM in Wolves history would almost have to be one of them (likely McHale due to his extended success). Connelly still has a real chance at claiming the top spot, but he can't afford anymore major mistakes.
A brief look at the Wolves top executive history:
Brewer (2 years) - did not excel with an expansion team
McClosky (3 years) - 60 wins in 3 seasons
McHale (14 years) - the only executive to lead the team to a playoff series win
Kahn (4 years) - in the running for worst GM in NBA history
Saunders (2 years) - was on the right track before his unfortunate death
Newton (1 year) - place holder
Thibs (3 years) - ok coach, but a truly awful GM
Rosas (2 years) - made some really good moves and some really bad moves, but was responsible for the team turning a corner
Gupta (1 year) - place holder
Connelly (1 year so far) - off to a rough start with the Gobert deal, but has made some solid moves as well

Just wanted to note “A” win, actually 2 that season in 14 years. After KG and Marbury which was great he checked out until it was get it together or you’re done which was the Spree and Sam offseason.
No one has really impressed but not going to throw Connelly out after one year. Especially since he might have a bigger plan and think the Gobert deal was splash new owners wanted, which is not aligned with a GM who has history of long term view and development through draft.
Return to Minnesota Timberwolves
