Re: Sixers Post Mortem Talk (Where Do We Go From Here?)
I think Doc should be fired but the idea of Harden making an ultimatum makes me cringe. You don’t get a say anymore. You must score more than 10 points in game 7 to ride this ride.

Re: Sixers Post Mortem Talk (Where Do We Go From Here?)
Neither Harden or Embiid are playoff alphas. The faster we come to terms with this the more we mitigate against wasting precious time.
Joel is the reigning MVP and that should fetch a golden jumpstart package for a team looking to retool. Knowing our organization, we'll probably keep him around and look back 3-4 years from now (still having not won anything) and heavily regret not pulling that lever right now.

I mean, if I had to pick one, it'd be Harden easily. Morey is gonna get Harden on a discount, hire a new coach, and ship out Maxey for a 3rd star.
I just wish this was the summer Mitchell was on the table and not last...hard to find a worthy 3rd star to trade Maxey for. Has to be a 2 or 3 though. No point guard and no big.
Harden at 38 making 30-some mil a year? That’s what the next contract will entail and I highly doubt Harden is doing ANOTHER discount. He probably views himself as a martyr for the last discount he gave.
CP3 at 38 making 30 mil atm. Morey would laugh all the the way to the bank if Harden would agree to 30 mil per year offer.
The salary increase will be crazy over the next few years. The two J’s are eligible to sign an extension worth 50-60 mil per year. By 2028 when Harden is 38 yo, the max contract might be around 70-80 mil per annum.
Harden ain’t sign a 30 mil contract if you look at there figures above.

Re: Sixers Post Mortem Talk (Where Do We Go From Here?)
After some thinking, I could see blowing it up if we got blown out and swept by Boston. But the reality is, we took them to 7 games. Having another long strong athletic wing to throw on Brown and Tatum could have made a difference in games 3 and 6. Remember Boston struggled mostly against long athletic teams in the regular season like the Magic and Nets.
As others have said, the most likely scenario is we fire Rivers, Harden opts in and we trade Harris for a 3 and D wing and back-up PG.

Especially if Celtics win it all and we are the only team that took them to 7 games.

Are you... trying to argue that 30 mil a year would be a bargain for an already deteriorating Harden? Because I'm not sold.

I sure hope not. Doc should be out regardless. Keeping Harden depends on how much he costs.

I am not arguing. I am merely pointing out what the market will be like and that Harden on 30 mil would not be a bad idea.
The reality is Morey's hands will be tied if Harden walks..It does not matter if you are sold or not, It matters what the market is.
Or we could let him walk and retool the roster.

Fire Doc and Bring in Nick Nurse
Sign and Trade Harden to Houston for Kenyon Martin and get a huge TPE
With Nurse as your coach, VanFleet could demand to go to Philly. Use the TPE in a S&T for VanFleet.
Trade Tobias to Atlanta for Collins and Bogdonavic (can;t be final until September). Gets ATL out of long terms contacts.
Lineup:
VanFleet
Maxey
Collins
Bogdonavic
Embiid
LFG!

FVV and Maxey would be the smallest and worst defensive starting backcourt in the league.

There is nobody in that lineup either that's getting this team past the second round in the playoffs.
Embiid has to be traded for a top wing in the league. Right now this team is the equivalent of trying to win a Super Bowl without an elite quarterback. Embiid has to be traded for the NBA equivalent of an elite quarterback, which is a top wing. We found that out yesterday.
Any proposal of how this team should function going forward in which Embiid remains the go-to player in the playoffs is destined to fail. He isn't that player and he won't be. Embiid has definitively become the ceiling on this team in the playoffs. You'd like to have him remain on the team alongside a top wing, but you have to trade him to get one.

Re: Sixers Post Mortem Talk (Where Do We Go From Here?)
What about a Nurse-Kawhi reunion in Philly?
Harris/Maxey/Korkmaz for Kawhi/Covington
Harden/(MLE)/McClung
Melton/Springer/(FA/project)
Kawhi/Niang/House
Tucker/Covington/(FA/project)
Embiid/Reed/Harrell
We know Maxey is likely a 3rd banana, so if Morey is deadset on winning with the Harden/Embiid duo, then continue to optimize the chances we win with them.

Lol. Worth a shot. Kawhi is a walking injury. But as long as he's healthy for the playoffs, that team will get past sec round!
McClung? lol please no.

Well, then we'll know for a fact that it's time to re-start the process and trade everyone. But, if we're truly married to the Harden/Embiid duo, then we might as well put the rest of our chips on the table.
1st step is hiring Nurse, 2nd step is calling Kawhi's uncle lol.

Re: Sixers Post Mortem Talk (Where Do We Go From Here?)
I believe just changing out Doc for Nurse or Bud and running it back with the same roster gives us a decent chance next year.
Bud would be better to get us the #1 seed and homecourt, while perhaps Nurse would be better with tactical adjustments in the playoffs (e.g. against the Celtics double-big lineup) which Glenn had zero clue how to counter.
