Time to bring back Theis...
Nah. Not for $9 mil a year he has guaranteed on his contract for next season.
Why pay him that much, when we already have Muscala, Gallo, Griffin and Kornet as much cheaper options?
Or we could acquire some other big man, via trade or free agency who makes less than Theis.
Eh, if Grant does leave, it makes sense. IND is a very logical landing spot. If they're willing to pay him more than we are willing to, working out a S&T over an offer sheet makes some sense. They'd be more than willing to send out his salary.
Preserving salary slots is huge in the NBA. Letting guys go outright cuts your legs off for any future deals. And in the meantime, he definitely offers more serviceable minutes at the 5 than Kornet, Blake, or Gallo (who's a 4, not 5). Not special, but it's marginal improvement and leaves the door open for some future trades.
