As for me, I can agree that the delay is a bit unsettling but I like to think that with nothing leaking there's no pressure from anyone other than fans for them to be in a hurry. Let the market develop, talk to the guys you're at all interested in, and then when you are confident you have your guy you make your hire. Nobody's hired anybody yet so no one is off the board and there's no need to rush. I can't believe I'm going to say this, but "trust the process"

What exactly are you proposing an assistant can or should do there?

Being in their coaches ear, keeping him on track with game management. Speaking up in timeouts if they notice something isn't working. Not sitting back and doing nothing. I'm all for Lee getting his shot, but a great assistant steps in to try to stop the bleeding, imo.

I'm with you on all that, I'm just not confident saying he definitely didn't do that

Nice. Vogel was the guy other than Atkinson that I'd have been pretty happy with.

If Lue & Nurse can't be had Vogel would be my top choice

Vogel is solid but he doesn't really get me excited. I go back and forth on wanting a veteran coach who's got experience or a young assistant that might be more of an offensive tactician and is ready to grind every night. I'm just glad we have the most coachable superstar.

Can’t get excited at all about Vogel. He’s been fired at three different places, in three very different settings (Indiana, Orlando, LA).

If we’re going to upgrade from Bud, let’s upgrade.

The odds of any of these coaches being an upgrade from Bud are slim. It's possible one of the assistants we interviewed is but it's more likely they will fail as most new head coaches do. All the previous head coaches we've interviewed are worse than Bud. This team should be looking for a Championship level Head Coach and Vogel is one of the few out there who has done it and done it recently.

He also had some pretty great success in two of those three settings, so kind of a weird thing to knock him for. Not gonna fault him too much for not getting 30+ wins out of those atrocious 2016-2018 Magic rosters, or for being yet another in a long line of Lebron scapegoat firings.

I’d be okay with Vogel provided they bring in a talented/creative assistant for the offense. Not exactly sure who that’d be though.

I am really liking the idea of Borrego as a lead assistant. Joining with Vogel or whoever in Milwaukee seems like a really smart play for him to get back to the head coaching ranks. That Charlotte offense was balanced and exploited mismatches.

I could certainly get behind Vogel as the head guy and Borrego as his #2

We've had these discussions in years past. You aren't able to mix and match head coaches with assistants that you like. Remember, the head coach wants his own people/own staff. And guys interviewing for a job, are interviewing the THE job, not thinking or wanting the guy who is ultimately hired to bring them on staff.

You take Vogel (or any of these guys) based on who they are and what they've done. That's what you're going to get.

Still would take Vogel over anyone else unless Nurse or Lue become realistic

Mostly true. Lakers did force Kidd on Vogel in LA, though.

On the flip side, Atkinson backed out of the Charlotte gig over not having full freedom hiring his staff.

True...and that didn't work out in LA, just like it didn't work forcing Lawrence Frank on Kidd (or vice versa).

If you guys all like Vogel, that's great. I'd just like a coach who either is a dynamic personality or an innovator. Don't feel like I get either with Vogel.

Asterisk or not, they did win a championship with Vogel/Kidd.

I'm not crazy about Vogel by himself, but he is basically Top-5 by default off of the list thus far.
