Re: Joel: unchained.
Should Embiid be the first option in the playoffs? Probably no, from what he has shown, at least if you want to win a title. Bu the point is moot, because Embiid is still the best offensive player on the team. You can ask him to take a step back, but there is no one else to deserve this role more than him on the team.

Morey quote talking about Joel:
"I wouldn't bet against him improving again," Morey said. "A lot of the conversation with Joel was just him like, 'I can do more, I can work on this, I'm watching the playoffs and looking at this guy, I can add that to my game.'"
Hmm, I wonder what Serbian guy he was talking about.

Yeah, that’s part of the problem. Cause it definitely ain’t Harden.
always a jump shot away.

I get a little nervous hearing Embiid/Morey talk about “adding” more to his game. There’s really no skill gap in his game that would elevate his game. At this point, it’s really about his ability to see the court, make quick decisions, and maintain his composure under pressure. It really sounds like nobody learned the right lessons this year.

I think the theory is the better your skills are the better your confidence will be, which Embiid and Harden (and Tobias) tend to continually lose when there's any sort of pressure. Their skills are enough IMO, just no confidence, no Kobe, and I don't think they will ever get that unless they suddenly grow some b@lls

Delayed reaction time. It really annoyed me that Joel said we lost to the best team in the league after game 7. It tells me he never really believed we were better than them, and that's some loser mentality ****.
2025-2026 Philadelphia 76ers:
Maxey/McCain/Lowry
Edgecombe/Grimes/Gordon
George/Oubre/Edwards
Bona/Watford/Barlow
Embiid/Drummond/Broome

Maybe he changed his mind after game 7?

At this point the most useful and realistic would be to improve his 3pt shooting, he has average vision and awareness out of the post, those don't improve much, he has to become the best outside shooter possible so that his off ball game improves dramatically.

Re: Joel: unchained.
Honestly, I wonder how much of Embiid's offensive struggles come down to him simply not being in good enough shape.
Compared to the regular season everything is just so much more amped up. He's playing more minutes, he's exerting waaaaay more energy on defense, and he has to exert more energy on offense just to get the ball in his hands with teams fronting, denying, and trying to push him off his spots.
It's not the only thing, but for him it might be the biggest difference.
And if that's not an option it's on the coach to figure out how survive for longer in the minutes he's not on the floor and come up with better ways to get him the ball.

Re: Joel: unchained.
Shaq was far less conditioned than Embiid and still dominated in the playoffs. The root of Embiid's playoff woes comes down to playstyle. Cosplaying as a scoring wing leads to missed field goals and turnovers and then he loses confidence and shells up.

I'd argue the root of his playoff woes is that his lack of toughness gets totally exposed.

Re: Joel: unchained.
Sure, maybe questionable toughness is the reason he doesn't work to get deep post positioning and try to dominate with inside scoring.
I tend to think it's more vanity and wanting people to see his offensive bag and marvel about how a guy that big can be so skilled.

Re: Joel: unchained.
Embiid has been on a quest to win the MVP for several years now, and he understands the most likely way to do that with his skill set is to play like a wing. He basically has to be a taller Kevin Durant.
The problem comes when his team needs him to adjust his play style due to the opponent or due to what the team needs under specific circumstances. It’s at that point that he’s unable to forsake his individual efforts for the needs of the team.
And the team knows it, which is why he doesn’t function as a leader and an inspiration to them. Nobody who functions with the priority of me over team can possibly function as a leader in team sports.

Re: Joel: unchained.
I still want to see him pick up a quick sky hook in the paint, to go along with his one legged fade away from the foul line. And a really good coach who could deploy a defense that will allow him to guard the rim without getting burned. Reduce his movement and keep it simple. Plus, no more MVP hunting. Reduce his minutes the way Pop would.

I think the game is too different nowadays, you need to move much more on defense due to the 3pt threat, you can't just camp inside the paint all game and that's it.
I think Shaq would have some struggles on the defensive end, but on offense he would dominate for sure unlike Embiid.

Bud would be perfect as a Pop disciple. He would limit Jo's mins and institute a drop defensive scheme which would help Embiid save energy, just like he did with Giannis and Lopez in MIL.

Re: Joel: unchained.
Shaq also had two of the best SG of all time (Wade and Kobe) who demanded the defense's attention. Joel has had Ben Simmons, Jimmy Butler, and James Harden. Ben was to be immediately dismissed on offense, Jimmy was in the shackles of Brett Brown and Ben's terrible offense, and Harden is simply not the scorer he once was.
If we had prime Kobe or Dwyane in this series, the Celtics would have been eviscerated on defense playing 2 centers to stop Joel.
That said, Joel should try to get that elusive DPOY award, become a 20-25ppg scorer on high efficiency, 15 rpg, and hand the offense to whoever Morey teams him up with.
