It's true. This was the classic Sportscenter experience for me as a kid before you could get clips of highlights anywhere in the world.

*Me waiting for Jazz/Lakers highlights*

Stuart Scott: Lakers/Jazz tonight. Three minutes in, Shaq with the power slam! Booyah, take that Ostertag! Meanwhile in the 2nd, Kobe Bryant with an amazing fake. Had my man on skates. Final score, Jazz win 110 to 97.

This is so accurate.
There was a game this season, mid December the Kings defeated the Lakers by over 10 and every single highlight they showed was Lakers.
If you didn't know the score you would have thought the Lakers won.

for her to say that it means she didnt even talk to anyone on her team about jokic, because people would've expressed some surprise at that.

ESPN has the worst coverage

They still have Dino Tim Legler that can’t even see what offense or defense a team is running most of the time.

He will act like the player should be doing man when the coach is specifically making them play zone. And he doesn’t recognize it often. And goes on TV often making analysis because he doesn’t understand the offense or defense. Full

The NBA coverage on ESPN needs a complete overhaul. Though everything related to NBA media(+game commentators) needs to be fixed but that is a rant for another day.

I simply don't understand why it's bad, I can watch a segment with analyst(s) that cover football, baseball, or hockey and it's beyond what you get from NBA coverage most of the time. SAS, Perkins, etc. Clowns.

Ah, yes, we were due for a "damn these women in my sports" thread.

If you take the time to listen it's very clear she meant seeing him in person was a revelation, not that she wasn't aware of how good he is. Saying "sleeping on him" is a poor choice of words and the tweeter made a point of just using that.

You can't reasonably believe anyone employed in her capacity doesn't realize he's a top player. She was a player and understands the game. But the chance to be outraged by a female reporter was too much to resist, I guess.
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

What? Jokic literally has the highest career playoff PER of all time. Right above Jordan and LeBron. It's not a perfect stat, but if you look at the top of the list, you see who you think should be there. He's averaged 27/12/7 across his playoff career. He hasn't always had the team to win around him in the past two years, but he's always been a playoff monster.

Edit: I just double checked and it's not above MJ and LeBron. It's above MJ and George Mikan, which is kind of cool. LeBron is 4th, though, so I guess I'll still consider him an ok player.

What led to his conclusion? Maybe he doesn't know what he is talking about.

Wallace_Wallace wrote:Since you sound like a casual, let me explain to you in a casual term.

You know Kawhi Leonard, the playoff assassin who kind of just take the regular season off due to leg injuries? The last time he was healthy, he blew a 3-1 to that one guy you were just referring to.

The last 2 seasons he got bumped in the first and second rounds. His assist number cratered during both post seasons. His turnover numbers were abysmal last post season, and he was being exploited on defense both playoff 'runs'. His offensive numbers looked great, but the results and defense indicated that he was a defensively soft center that gets exploited on that end of the floor (a big problem at his position) and won't be able to progress deep into the playoffs when teams target him. That was proven his last few seasons where he got bounced quickly and was regularly targeted on defense in the PNR.

His defense has improved this year, and so far it looks like he's figured out how maintain a winning impact this post season. He used to be like the DeRozan Raptors every post season, but he's looking like the Kawhi version of that team now.

No hate on Jokic, he's looking like the best player in the league this season. But there's a reason he didnt win a 3rd MVP and a lot of analysts are surprised at what he's doing. Because he was not this guy in the past. Credit to him for working on his game and looking like a legit playoff monster now. We'll have to see how he finishes against the Lakers and Celtics/Heat before we can fully judge him, but I think it's safe to say he's made doubters think again.

His assists went down 2-3 per but he also increased his scoring by 3-4+ points per game. He got to the second round in 2021 without his second scoring option. He played last postseason without his second and third scorers against the champions. Losing in the first and second rounds missing key players when he is playing at a high level is not a singular player issue, it is a team issue. They made it to the WCF when he had Murray in 2020, and that was when murray was 23 yrs old. They did it by beating a clippers team with both kawhi and PG playing.

Defensively, he has his issues...but if teams are able to target him defensively that badly and they are not able to go deep into the playoffs because of that, then please explain how he has been to the WCFs twice now in the past four postseasons?

But she is also surprised by how good he is, which you don’t need to be in person to know. It does sound like she has never been assigned to cover him, but how do you have that job and never be curious to tune in on your own at some point? I really hope she didn’t have an MVP vote without watching him all these years.

How many posts are bringing up the fact she shouldnt be covering sports because she is a woman? Thats not even being discussed here.

She also kills the whole "just talking about watching him in person" thing with her flat out saying, "I havent paid much attention to him." There really is no spinning that line. It is what it is. Dont think its all that shocking if she only watches the games that she is assigned to do. Most people on these shows and on these stations arent going home with multiple games recorded on the DVR and watching multiple games every night.

ESPN/ABC would have no one to blame but themselves. Just think if they actually gave Jokic the same kind of coverage that other stars get. Maybe casuals would be more familiar with Jokic and be more inclined to tune in and watch him.

But when you got ESPN personalities that their job is to cover NBA games flat out admitting this is the first time they're actually watching him. Ya thats on ESPN. Jokic should be a very easy sell by now for the casual audience.

travesty that ESPN relegates a legit analyst like Legler to the midnight hour and clowns like these get the prime slots

I found this clip the other day, before this thread was made.

I thought "this is embarrassing." And I like Lisa Salters. I think she does a good job.

Jokic isn't some guy on the rise, he's a 2-time MVP.

ESPN's coverage of the NBA is awful, IMO. I wish they would trade Redick to TNT for Kenny, and then at least one of the channels that covers the league would be listenable to me. I can't stand Kenny, but I like the other three guys. Redick isn't the greatest, but I'll take him over Kenny.

He won back to back NBA MVP's. If you're a fan of basketball you've seen Jokic play.

I don't believe half the female sideline reporters these major sports networks employ give a flying **** about the sport. It's a good job for them, and fills a quota for the company. I think anyone employed in this capacity should have to pass a knowledge test that proves they care about the sport further than a paycheck.

Also why I love Doris Burke so much. Love or hate her, that woman bleeds basketball and has forgotten more about it than any of us know.

She is almost certainly saying she hasn't seen him play in person.
When will we just change the name of 25 of the 30 teams to the Washington Generals?

Please advise….
