Yah, I think he goes 11-16, so many teams in that range make a ton of sense. He might even have upward pressure at 9 or 10. I didn't love him last year, but seeing him in the gleague with just how massive and fluid he is, I think he could be a fantastic piece for someone. I'd love him on the Jazz at 16.

Power ranking how people looked in scrimmage 1 to my eyes (bolded players are guys I think should be drafted, italics guys who should at least be considered):

Clearly helped their stock
1. Isaiah Wong (often looked like the most talented player on the court, poised, very good shooter, great in the PnR --- looked like an NBA player among gleague players)
2. O-max Prosper (fantastic defensively, very athletic, jumper needs a bit of work, can clearly defend 3s and 4s and switch on all other positions & not be taken complete advantage of)
3. Seth Lundy (he can shoot, defend, and pass --- I think he just got himself drafted if he wasn't already on team's boards)
4. Amari Bailey (not sure he got himself drafted, but will have generated some interest with his passing)

*Maybe* helped their stock
5. Trey Alexander (except that stupid turnaround jumper he was in love with looked great, not sure if he should be drafted)
6. Drew Timme (didn't pop statistically but looked surprisingly mobile defensively ... might not continue at next level)
7. Oscar Tsheibwe (nothing new)
8. Adama Sonogo (nothing new)
9. Kendric Davis (nothing new)
10. Andre Jackson (looked bigger than I expected, perhaps a function of these guys not being filled out but looked PF sized)
11. Jordan Walsh (through some great passes and defended well but was a non-factor as a scorer)
12. Terrence Shannon (didn't have a super great game, but popped athletically and with his ability to get to his spots)

Didn't help/hurt their stock:
13. Kevin McCullar
14. Jalen Slawson
15. Reece Beekman
16. Azoulis Tubelis (didn't look athletic enough, but did play well in this context)
17. Hunter Tyson (see Tubelis)
18. PJ Hall (didn't do much)
19. Omari Moore (didn't do anything)

Hurt their stock:
18. Jazian Gortman (irrelevant, not sure where people had him but didn't get much of a chance this game and didn't show anything when he did and had probably the dumbest play of the game --- terrible shooting in OTE, too, don't think he is draftable)
19. Dillon Mitchell (absolutely invisible)
20. Terquavion Smith (was so, so bad that it hurt players on his team)

totally insignificant but i believe this is the first year they didn't even measure their height with shoes on. wonder if that will have any effect on how their listed heights will look.

imo, podz was the best player yesterday with the near triple double. 8 assists, 0 turnovers and simply controlled the game in his 20 minutes of play. he's a guy you put the ball in his hands, he'll get a good shot for himself or a teammate.

I am curious if we go back to past Combine scrimmages how much any of this matters tbh. It's literally one game where neither sie really has any game plan and has never played together.

Honestly, it's mostly nonsense and probably hurts your evaluation if you rely on it at all.

I imagine it doesn't matter too much, but we did see Jalen Williams rise from a mid first to late lotto (just a few spots) because of it, and it is a game against higher talent level (generally) than a typical college team. It's not everything, but it's not quite nothing if someone really stands out good or bad, IMO.

Last year Nembhard and Williams were good. Ok, that's true.

Trevion Williams, Scotty Pippen, and wait for it..Terquavion were also good in scrimmages.

Literally one projected first rounder played in the scrimmage (although I would have first round grades on some of the guys who played):

Podz looked really good. That shot is so unique in that it starts quite slow, then just pops with the trajectory of a catapult and seems to work out for him. His court vision is pretty good.

the entire point of scrimmages is basically just to get a read on how players interact with each other, on court performance is irrelevant, it's more a leadership/aura thing and it's hard for any of us to get a read on that from here unless we're there on the ground with the players.

if anyone is actually changing their evals on their players b/c of scrimmages at this point then they are doing it wrong, at least for the people not there with the players.

Eh, I think you learn something about where guys stand athletically, and if some "is not like the others" if they really, really stand out. No one in game one fell into the latter camp for me, but some things about the former did become clear (e.g., Lundy just looked much more athletic on the bigger court than his college game would suggest - not amazing, but a plus athlete in this group and I imagine that moves him solidly into team's second round boards, unless he would rather be udfa to pick his team).

Amari Bailey hasn't looked this good all year- he was dealing with a foot injury during the season, but it looks like he's also grown up a bit. Starting to look like a really solid complimentary piece.
