Their thing is more about identifying those type of guys rather than magically turning someone into something they're not. It's not like Shake and Korkmaz haven't had a ton of opportunity here over the years.

It's kinda silly that we were playing Trez over Reed knowing full well he wasn't going to be a playoff viable option, but maybe that competition drives BBall to work harder rather than simply being gifted minutes and being allowed to do some of the dumb **** he does.

It certainly doesn't seem like Miami gifts anything to players, they just give them the opportunity to earn it.

When I see scrubs and journeymen performing the way so many have in places like Miami and San Antonio, I do wonder about guys who have some talent but have never put it together but shown flashes, like Shake and Korkmaz. Having an "opportunity" and being put in a situation to succeed are two entirely different things, kind of like reactionary desperation moves or garbage time opportunities vs. being part of a system where you're always prepared because you could get the call at any moment.

Miami's system encourages players to always be prepared, and they look for players with that mentality. Our system here has been to play favorites and bury guys, only giving them a shot when there was no other option. Not having players like Shake and Korkmaz, and even Springer - guys with specific skills that might be very useful in certain spots - ready to go if needed, but instead languishing on the bench with no expectancy of playing, is an utter lack of resources.

I don't really think that's what it is though.

Shake's been averaging 20+ mpg the last 4 years. Prior to this year when the actively looked to upgrade his spot, Kork was averaging about 20 mpg for a 3 year stretch.

I think Miami's thing with these 2 would have been "these guys don't have it, let's see what someone else can give us."

The more interesting question to me is: who are the guys that didn't get an opportunity that could have contributed?

You might be right, but seeing the type of players thriving in Miami I can't help but wonder ......

I'm sorry, but I'm rooting for Miami as if I were a pure Miami fan, heck probably even more than I root for Sixers. They are all you want in a basketball team. Not the most talented, but they play the hardest, don't play analytics BS, etc.

For a quasi "star", Jamal Murray really turns it up in the playoffs.

Not an 82-game player, but a 16-game player. Meanwhile, all we have are 82-game players that wilt under the bright light of the postseason.

Picture Embiid or Harden looking like that.

A little tough, isn’t it.

Must be nice for a Center to have a reliable perimeter player like Jamal Murray

But you don’t need the center to win. The best team of the past decade, the Golden State Warriors, has done it without a great center.

I agree. I don't think you can win with a dominant center and weak perimeter play.

that team also has the greatest shooter of all time...and probably the second too. Also one of the most versatile defenders of all time too. For two of those rings, they also just so happened to have one of the greatest offensive weapons of all time too. And always have had top tier wing defenders on deck.

but yeah other than that...super easy.

Good.

Jo needs this.

Jokic went out early his two MVP years so it didn't sting as much...now he has to let this **** burn slow.

Maxey is our Murray, not Harden. Of course it’s a lot easier to have a combo guard like Murray bringing the ball up then letting Jokic run the offense, then getting passes back from the big man. Jo is an improving passer, but his score first mentality sometimes limits him from making some of the easier passes even as he gets better at more difficult ones.

The Heat and Nuggets will (hopefully) make an entertaining Finals. Two dawgs going at it plus two franchises that have a bit of bad blood between each other after the Jokic-Markeiff Morris incident from a couple of years ago.

I don't envy Joel Embiid having to watch his biggest MVP rival going up against his former teammate.

Jokic is like the Tyson Fury of basketball players. Completely insane, unorthodox game on a tall middle aged man frame, but also outrageously fun to watch. I hope they win it all. Would love to see the nuggets finally bring one home and Jokic is a deserving champion.

A little tease for y'all. :) Looking at Nuggets roster, are they what Sixers were supposed to grow into 5 years ago?

Murray <> Fultz
KCP <> Reddick
Porter <> Covington
Gordon <> Saric
Jokic <> Embiid

(not even taking Simmons into consideration)

Not rooting against Jokic, but I just love Butler and that's why I will root for him, dude has been criticized for BS things like being a bad locker room guy and all that, dude is just a winner and most teams and players can't handle him.

If Miami wins tonight, the NBA (and ABC/ESPN) offices are going to melt down. The dreams of a LA-BOS final have not only become a nightmare, but staring at the possibility of two conference finals sweeps?

I don't think Embiid is wired that way, unfortunately. He's not an athlete who has stuff eat away at him. I don't think he's a particularly driven athlete. I think he wants to win, every athlete wants to win, but I don't think he's the type who loses sleep at night for losing or for being disrespected. And if it does bother him, it hurts his feelings rather than angers him.

He tends to play his worst when he's doubted, not his best.

I don't expect anything to change next year with him.

Nice to see that Jaylen Brown forgot how to shoot a basketball as soon as he stopped playing the Sixers.

You forgot about Smart and Brogdon. They all bricked houses.

Jalen Brown and Smart both had an air ball in the first half lol.
