Quite unfortunate that he sucks at team defense. Expected more from him on that end.

Re: Welcome to Boston, MALCOLM BROGDON – (6MOY - 2023)
Celtics getting a better Brogdon playmaker and defender this season. Major part of it was Joe not having a full offseason to prepare and define players roles. With Brogdon as the new guy last season, it was harder to adjust to carried-over system. Physically, he's lost a step but he's still one of the more cerebral guys in the league. Guy knows how to play. Mazzulla needs to re-emphasize defense this season.
Side note: Stevens really added FOUR playoff-calibre rotation veterans in a span of two years. Guy not getting enough credit from national media for building this team.

Re: Welcome to Boston, MALCOLM BROGDON – (6MOY - 2023)
Stat for optimism; in the 900 minutes Brogdon spent as pg (aka not with smart); Celtics had a +7.4 net rating while the 831 min he played as classified as sg the Celtics were -0.1.
The assist% at pg wasn’t amazing; only 23.8% for 25.8% usage but the previous year at Indy he had an assist % of 29.7 at pg so we know he CAN do it.
Just needs to be a different emphasis.

Re: Welcome to Boston, MALCOLM BROGDON – (6MOY - 2023)
This will be a fascinating subplot throughout training camp. The team is insistent publicly and privately that Malcolm Brogdon will be healthy enough for camp. Joe Mazzulla signaled that rebuilding the relationship with Brogdon is a work in progress after the failed trade to the Clippers but that’s an understandable situation given how little time has passed. Getting back on the court should help heal some of those wounds once the season begins but there is certainly a tough spot for Brogdon one year after he chose to go to Boston. He’s set for another big role this season off the bench but it might be a little tougher for him to sacrifice so willingly knowing the team was close to moving him.

It's good to hear that they think Malcolm will be good to go for camp, but it should be interesting to hear on media day how Malcolm feels about the trade falling through. I think/hope he'll be a pro about it, but we'll see.
Tbh, I didn't take a ton away from Joe's quote, Joe is really not great about speaking to the media lol

“Sacrifice so willingly” seems like code for not being a You Know What about not starting.

Re: Welcome to Boston, MALCOLM BROGDON – (6MOY - 2023)
Malcolm will be fine. He's a pro, a 30 year old grown man who's been in the league for a long time and is making over $20mil a year to play basketball. He knows it's a business and he's not some overly sensitive little 4 year old.
He's probably not gonna want to sign an extension with us. But that's ok - the team probably wasn't going to extend him anyways. White is the better player, is younger and is due for an extension sooner. Clearly, we're gonna extend White. Then it won't really make sense to extend both of them at big money so Malcolm is either gone after his current deal runs out in 2 years or he'll extend with Boston on a cheap, team friendly deal. Or we trade him before his contract is up, to at least get something for him - rather than having him walk away in 2 yrs and we're left with nothing for him..

Nothing wrong with having a different opinion - as long as it's done respectfully. It'd be lame if we all agreed on everything

Still a bit surprised how, after everyone was gushing about the Brogdon acquisition being a legit 'needle-mover' and thus a brilliant piece of FO wizardry, so many were also knee-jerkedly quick to be done with him after his injury-hampered playoff performance.
Hopefully he'll have moved on from that aborted Clipper trade fiasco by the time he comes off the bench on opening night.

Even if he comes off the bench, he should finish games for us esp if we need a score. Can always bring in Horf or Timelord for defensive stops in crunch time.

See the above post by steef, something was up last year with the guard rotation. Ie, Brogdon at SG was a stink for some reason.

It's not really about the position, more about who he shared the court with. It's strange actually; Brogdon + smart without jaylen wasn't a problem but neither was brogdon + jaylen without smart. Put them all 3 together and it was disastrous. Roughly 800 possessions with all 3 and it was - 10.4.
So to recap any combo of 2 of jaylen smart and brogdon without the third works fine, all 3 of them was a disaster.
Idk why but that's what happened

Well I get that I was being simplistic but there were some fit issues despite his solid play.

I can exclude him but at some point deluding the sample further is just not productive. Im already wary of anything below a 1000 possessions.
But for completion's sake
Jaylen and Smart ON, Brogdon and tatum OFF; +13.8 in 392 possessions
Jaylen and Brogdon ON, Smart and tatum OFF; +7.8 in 672 possessions
Jaylen and Brogdon and Smart ON, Tatum Off; -12.9 in 374 possessions

Doesn't matter, I highly doubt Brogdon makes it through the mid season trade deadline if he isn't traded sooner.

Yes, you've said that quite a few times now. But a team on the verge of winning its 1st title in 16 years doesn't just trade 1 of its top 7 players - the reigning 6MOY unless they're getting good value back in return.
And we're not likely to get very much value back in return - since his age, size (under 6'5") and injury concerns mean he isn't really worth the amount he is getting paid and the amount of years still left on his deal.
We lost Smart and didn't get a rotation level guard to replace him. That means Brogdon is even more valuable to this team now than he was last season.
Perhaps he gets traded, but I'd say it's a longshot. There's been no rumors about a possible Brogdon trade, ever since the Smart for Porzingis deal went through.
This is the only news that has come out since then:
https://www.cbsnews.com/boston/news/celtics-shutting-down-malcolm-brogdon-trade-calls-nba-rumors/
The Celtics are telling teams they are not trading Malcolm Brogdon
Nothing wrong with having a different opinion - as long as it's done respectfully. It'd be lame if we all agreed on everything
