Bilal looks like hot trash on defense especially navigating screens in a lot of those clips. He is a lot more raw than people here would have you believe.

I haven't seen anyone say he isn't raw. That's why he's undervalued in this draft. He got a lot better on defense as the season went on and that's why he's playing more. I wouldn't expect him to come in and play 30 minutes a night.

Where did I say that nobody here said he's raw. My point is that I believe is even more raw than what many would have you believe. I'm not slamming the skills he demonstrates on the court, he is one of the best upside/projection picks in the draft (even though I still maintain he is a role player), but there's a steep hill he still needs to climb to get there.

I read this thread a lot and I can't tell the expectations people have for this kid immediately. I do know he has several key ingredients for adaptability 1) iq 2) effort 3) humility 4) fast-learner 5) NBA ready body. This kind of prospect gets 15-20 minutes off the bench in year one and then they see what a summer of Rico brings.

He's probably as raw as Leonard Miller was last year. Would probably draft LMiller before Bilal.

I think a pick like Bilal rejuvenates our development pipeline the way Bruno's selection made us create one. It didn't pan out for Bruno with us, but the other guys we brought in took advantage and it led to the growth of Siakam, Fred and Norm.
I should add, Bilal would be coming into a much better situation and he's not nearly as raw as Bruno was.

I would probably say he get 10-15 mins off the bench max in his first year, if the team is that drafts him is not in playoff contention.

How high are people willing to take Andre Jackson? I’m at the point where I wonder if he can return top 20 value long term

Everything that video shows indicates Bilal isn't ready for an NBA bench, he might be ready for the g-league in 2024, an NBA bench in 2025 and 15-20 minutes off a bench in 2026 when he's 21-22. This is precisely why I made the comment I made, he isn't as close to ready as people think.

Re: 2023 Draft Discussion Part 5
You can justify taking Bilal if we traded for that 3rd pick but it's gonna be an extremely hard and patient sell for a team still tryna compete now

Bilal's body is not NBA ready by any means. He has a great frame which is currently underdeveloped. He needs to hit the weight room. Anyone with eyes can see that.

Is it the defense for you? I see the missed layups, but then I see that he draws fouls at a good rate. Shoots the 3 reasonably well and shoots 50+% on 2s. He has good ts% and gets lots of steals and blocks. So I wonder if those shots are included to showcase his ability to get to the rim more than trying to highlight his rawness. Because he seems to be pretty efficient for the most part.
This is at the U19 level mind you, where he does a lot of self creation. On the sr. team he has a more defined 3 & D role where I see that he could carve out a role like OG did early on. With the bonus of him being a more dynamic athlete, with better ball handling than OG (that's not saying a lot, since OG is pretty clumsy, but it's something).
So if he could find success in a limited 3&D role with us before growing into a bigger role that would be great.
Guys like Nash, Jimmy and Shai took a while to resemble their current levels. I wonder if our fanbase would have the patience. He's definitely not an immediate impact guy, but he might surprise and be competent and playable in a defined role.

I have no problem with his shooting, he needs to work on fine tuning his game, defensive awareness and adding mass to his frame. There's no rush with him. Leave him overseas another year, give him a year in the g-league, let him add 15-20 pounds, let him work on his free throw shooting, on-ball gameplay including his playmaking (he plays it very safe with the ball in his hands and rarely tries to make plays for others) and defensive awareness.

He's probably as raw as Leonard Miller was last year. Would probably draft LMiller before Bilal.
Bilal has more swingman ability than Miller does. Miller is now a PF small ball 5, where as Bilal is a SF possibly SG on certain lineups

Again, it's looking like Wallace and Walker as the fall candidates.
Wonder what our interest would be in either of em. Walker fits our longboi vision, Wallace fits a need.
Is Wallace comparable to Suggs?

I’d say there’s a little something there in terms of a comparison being that they’re both defensive guards. But Suggs was a better offensive prospect. Not knowing what we know, I’d project Jalen Suggs as a top 3-4 pick in this draft.

I like Wallace better than I liked Suggs. He's more under control. Suggs was really sloppy with the ball and very turnover prone. He reminds me of Davion Mitchell with more consistent shooting and better size.
I think he's got a really high floor. I don't see a lot of creativity in his game though, so the upside isn't as obvious. Jrue is an interesting comp, but I think Jrue was less of a shooter and showed more body control and inside finishing in traffic with creative layups.
If he or Walker are there at 13, you take one of them. If not, Coulibaly. Maybe Miller.

I would be jumping for joy if Wallace fell to 13 and we were able to draft him.
I'm hoping I am wrong, but it feels like a pipedream.
