Perhaps they could use it as an opportunity. This offseason, maybe they could trade one of the guards along with however many picks they have that are available and needed, and get themselves a starting forward. Teams don't want to trade all of their picks like that, but my thinking is that they either construct a dominant team, or they replenish the picks in a year or 2 by trading Brown, hopefully for a Donovan Mitchell type package. The guard I would trade is Brogdon who has good value after having an award winning and healthy year. I see him being healthy this past year as fools good, and I know everyone gets an erection over the way he presents himself, but I'm not a big fan. Surprisingly, he's not an especially smart player or decision maker. He's a solid bucket getter, but those points can be replaced by whoever comes back in trade. The obvious dream target is Bridges.
Fully agree with moving a guard for a forward. Add picks as needed depending on the guy. I’ve posted on the trade board for instance and Derrick White for Finney-Smith straight up is considered fair. White plus picks for OG got lukewarm acknowledgment as something they could possibly work. Just for examples.
I’d really rather trade White or Smart than Brogdon though. It’s just about diversification of skill set. I think it’s really important that when one or both of Tatum or Brown are sitting you still have someone who can be a primary scoring option type. Smart and White are much more duplicative than Brogdon. He checks boxes on the team that no one else does.
