Very few players are truly untradable, we just had a top 20 all time player traded this year. The question is does the return and timing make sense.

But if the Celtics are uncomfortable with locking both Tatum and Brown into super max, then they'd at least need to think about it, Brown especially since they already had leaked that previously they considered him in big trades etc.

Though for the Celtics the likely course of moves is first give Brown the max extension then trade, unless of course Brown himself agrees to extend with whoever the preferred target is.

Exactly. People say trade trade trade but never throw up any realistic options.

They overlap a lot, and when that's the case, you basically have to be overwhelmingly more talented than better and more cohesive team units, and they don't have that kind of talent gap. I think they both need to be paired with an actual playmaker lead guard or point forward.

If the Celtics trade for Lillard it won't be with JB going out. It will be Brogdon and one of Smart or White plus picks. Probably a good idea to pull a third team in that might be willing to add value for Brogdon or Smart/White.

yeah, an embarassment like this trickles down and poisons the well
I believe that where there's smoke there's fire. meaning that if they don't give Brown the Supermax he's gonna walk for nothing

they've had a couple of chances to get it done and they didn't
Horford is getting older and he's a key cog in what they're doing

time to retool, these two were always somewhat redundant
you can't pay two supermaxes to two guys who aren't good passers and playmakers

time to retool, Brown could fetch a nice haul

Brown presumably will have a shortlist of teams he will want to extend with, so you kinda have to deal with that.

I don't think he's overrated, I think what's preventing him from being great is his wokeness and victim mentality. I think he may be better outside of Boston, but he will need strong leadership, cause he dwell a lot on weird stuff. May be one of the reasons he averaged 26.5 points and has no legit is sponsors... he's an odd, dude. I think he will strive next to LBJ ala Kyrie.. 8-)
Good assessment:

This is where I’m at, and a good non-sensationalist take. Neither of them is a true lead ball handler. Tatum shows some developmental potential there, but does feel like there’s a bit of a ceiling to him there that might not be good enough. For Brown it’s just a glaring weakness in his game and the reason he’s “just” a borderline all NBA guy and not an MVP candidate (which is hardly an insult).

Ideally you keep both and just get a better lead ball handler. The question though is if you can get a player who checks that box without having to give up one of them, presumably Brown. You might be forced to make that tough call to trade him.

Hmm so from the last 2 posts you seem to want a lead ball handler and a Center like Capela. Lucky for you the 2 things i want to get rid of on the Hawks in trades right now is Murray a very very good lead ball handler and Capela who doesn't mesh well with Trae and Collins. Those are 2 good pieces to start a trade with for Brown. Brown is better without the ball in his hands where as Trae is at his best with it. Those 2 pair much better than Trae and Murray do and we can then go get a stretch 5 to replace Capela and pair with Collins and Onyeka.

jaylen for capela + murray work in espn trade machine.

maybe there's also a kat/jaylen deal that could work.

Firstly… ha at calling the Spurs.

They wouldn’t give up #1 for both Tatum and Brown let alone one of them.

Secondly, you don’t break up a duo that is so rare to come by.

The team plays 3 guys that are literally no threat on offence.

Keep Tatum, Brown, White, Brogdon and clean house of the rest.

Horford should be retired. Williams is a joke. Smart can’t stop anyone when it matters (and no one can in this modern era).

You just can’t play one dimensional players any longer.

Build a proper team around these two stars and they’ll continue competing for as long as they play.

Boston struggles with size. Same reason Orlando beat them 3x this year. They need to fix that

They're not trading Tatum, he's the franchise but I would assume everyone else is on the table.

They should change coach and stick to their young core. Tatum is 25 and Brown is almost 27. Ideally you might consider a trade of Brown if you can have a great PG or a great Big in exchange under 30 years of age. I don't see any under-30 elite pg or center that realistically can be traded for Jaylen Brown, so I believe it's better to keep the core as it is.

They were just in the finals last year. Clearly the coaching is a major issue.

Keep both but do not give either the supermax, you will just be an ECF gatekeeper at that point
